My god, Cho Yeo-jeong would be such a fantastic nominee, especially in a weak year like this. Her character is such a ray of sunshine in this movie, it literally made me smile just now. So likable

She is a Revelation in that movie – she is just “peachy” perfect 😉

Agreed – if enough people see this movie, she could be the Marina De Tavira of next year’s Oscars!

most critically acclaimed indie film of the year.

No need to say indie, it’s just the most critically acclaimed film of the year in general

Just saw Parasite and it was amazing, one of the most suspenseful and best directed films I have ever seen. I would single out the actor who plays the son as the cast MVP – it’s his character we care about and is key to the film working and it requires an acting performance that makes us care (let’s face it none of the characters are, ahem, “likeable”!). The rain storm sequence was truly amazing! The film is spell-binding! I would like to see it get Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best film Editing, and Best Foreign Language Film. Truly brilliant! A+! (:

    Well well well!

I’m usually cautious about calling a film a masterpiece.

Iv e seen things in my life I still can’t believe, so I could sense where the film was going. But it didn’t matter.
The way the story unfolds is a multilayered thing of beauty and more intriguing than anything I’ve seen in a decade.

Every aspect is a work of art; the tech crew, the cast, the screenplay, and the Direction.
I can’t single out just one member of this wonderful cast. They are a true team. All of them drew an emotional response from me.

But what I truly appreciated about Parasite is the social commentary.

Bong Joon -ho is now in my top ten list of working dorectors.
I can’t fault Snowpiercer for it’s craft and unique vision and Tilda is a hoot. But all of that fighting and kicking and killing in such a claustrophobic setting isn’t my favorite thing.
But this slight glitch (for me) is a distant memory.
    Highly recommended folks.

I agree with everything you said but I am cautious about placing it in cinematography – I currently have The Irishman, 1917, Joker, A Hidden Life and the Lighthouse as my five for this category.

Are you confident that Parasite could be acknowledge here also?

No. I can also see snubs coming for the cast.
After The Last Emperor went 9 for 9 with no nominations for both great leads, the Director win/nom might be enough for them.

It’s wishful thinking but I hope the academy members do their research on the actors’ names and reward them when the time comes.

Also, I think the film is a lock for Picture, Director, Screenplay, and International Film nominations. I hope people find a way to reward the cinematography, production design, and sound design.

My personal Top 10 of 2019 so far:
    1) Parasite 2) The Farewell 3) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4) Joker 5) Jojo Rabbit 6) The Peanut Butter Falcon 7) Marriage Story 8) Luce 9) Yesterday 10) Hotel Mumbai

One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I was just blown away. Deserves absolutely EVERYTHING at the Oscars this year. Wow.

I’ve not seen anyone mention it here but Jung Jae Il’s score was amazing as well and added significantly to the viewing experience. I’d love to see a nomination for him at the Oscars.

ALL THE AWARDS. Just all of them. Especially for screenplay and director. I don’t know how he was able to make those tonal shifts work, but he deserves an oscar for it. It was so satisfying in every sense. It should be a blockbuster.

It was #10 in the box office for Friday and could stay there for the rest of the weekend despite only being in 33 theatres! With a $13k per theatre average!!
