If one of the actresses in Parasite get nominated, which one do you think will get nominated? And what categories do you think they would land in? Lead or Supporting?
ReplyOctober 31, 2019 at 7:30 am #1203160362The movie’s best shot at an acting nomination is Song Kang-ho.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 31, 2019 at 8:33 am #1203160493Agree about Song. If any actress is going to make it in, it’s probably Cho Yeo-Jeong, and definitely in supporting. I personally adored her performance, and I hope that by some miracle she can get enough hype to squeeze in on nomination morning.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 31, 2019 at 8:36 am #1203160499How can Cho Yeo-jeong be considered as Lead ?? (But she deserves a nomination in Supporting)
The only actor who can be considered as Lead is Choi Woo-sik who plays the son.

All four members of the Kim family are leads in this film.October 31, 2019 at 8:46 am #1203160522I’m so glad Korean film is finally being recognised in Hollywood after decades of only European films being recognised time and time again. Asian film is excellent too. Parasite was an amazing film, and it’s only the tip of the iceberg!
To answer the question: Cho Yeo-Jeong in BSA. I hope Parasite performs well on nominations morning.

Not for me, especially the mother Kim which I felt has the smaller part to play.
I consider the son as the Leading role because he’s the one that opens and closes the film. All the story starts whith his character and his connection with his friend who “introduces” him the Park family.
I assume that he’s the link between all the other characters.-

I still believe he’s the best bet in defeating Scorsese. It may be a political win but it’s more than a worthy one.
The actors I’m not as optimistic about. But maybe after 85 years an Asian woman can show up in Lead.ReplyCopy URLDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

ReplyCopy URLOctober 31, 2019 at 12:45 pm #1203160822Unfortunately I do not see anyone getting an acting nomination other than supporting actor for maybe Song Kang-ho (who is a massively famous/well-respected actor in South Korea).
If it does happen (which I will be praying for) then I think it would signal very strong support for Parasite.

Well, let’s wait to see how the press covers it.
If Parasite wasn’t the great film that it is, there wouldn’t be much chance at all.ReplyCopy URLDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Foreign language productions are movies American audiences have to read and they don’t like doing that when watching a movie. We prefer to be passive viewers waiting for something to impress us for further engagement.

So many people have told me they ” don’t like to read and watch at the same time”. They likely can’t walk and chew gum either, so I let it pass.
But M, if Parasite does as well with Oscar as it deserves, the headlines will focus on his being South Korean and his film being South Korean and what a historic event that is.
It’s not that I have a big problem with that but politics is going to play a bigger part here than it does with all the other contenders.-
