Lmao, calm down Tom. Jesus…I didn’t mean to insult Gold Derby’s journalism at all.

Oh, come on! Look at your original comment and tell me again that you didn’t mean to insult us:

“Shocking. It’s probably just me, but I feel like Gold Deby is so behind on film news this year.”

One good slap deserves another, I say!

I’m glad it’s official. I was actually considering the idea that she might go lead, even though it would have been totally nonsensical. I’m wondering if this was in any way affected by Julianne Moore coming into the Best Actress race with strong reviews? Supporting Actress is weaker now mainly because of her clearly being the favourite in lead.

This was the right choice. It is a supporting performance, and a damn good one.

Hopefully this means IFC will at least try to push Binoche in lead for Clouds of Sils Maria.

It might be too early to predict the winner in any acting
category, but IMO, she is the closest thing to a lock
and I can easily see her winning the Oscar

I thought she already was in Supporting.

It was assumed, but, technically, the studio hadn’t confirmed it, so there was still the slim possibilty that they could have pushed her to Lead (again, glad that they didn’t).

    Great scoop, Tom!

I just saw ‘Boyhood’ today and left the theatre thinking, just give her the Oscar already.

LMAO the tension in this thread.

It made no sense that Arquette would go leading. It’s BOYHOOD, not MOTHERHOOD. The story is the boy’s, xtc.

And, the Oscar ethics, it’s EASIER in supporting.

Thanks for the confirmation Tom! Thanks for the Arquette support too, it is nice to finally see here after the beating she took on these threads for her Emmy win in 2005 and nomination in 2007. it seems her honbest and human performances are now appreciated.  =)

She is clearly a lock here, and something is seriously wrong with this world if she is nominated for an Oscar, SAG, GG, Indi Spirit, etc., and taking home everything.  Amazing performance, and she is the heart and soul of “Boyhood”, playing the mother.

I saw the film several times and enjoyed disecting her performance: it was more enjoyable eavery time because you can see more and more layers to Olivia. Kudos to Arquette, in my book, as usual.

She was very good in MEDIUM, what hate happened in 2005?

She has one or two Oscar clips, although I’d choose the confrontation door/kids scene with second husband. Or even the final speech.  A lot of middle-age women in my theater were sobbing.

I thought that Stone had this one but now even I gotta say that Arquette could easily win.

There was a lot of hate on these forums regarding Arquette’s surprise Emmy win in 2005 over Close and Hargitay. I honestly do not think those people watched the show or her submission tape. It was no easy job to be the most normal and relatable mother and wife on televisoon while being a psychic and solvong crimes.

FYI, People magazine and the Washington post predicted her win I believe.  Tom summed up why she won very well, and her submission tape, “In Sickness and Adultery” was outstanding with a lot of range. The realistic portayal of a marriage helped her as well, there was an argument between her and her husband’s character when she said something like, “If I have to get up on the stand and lie too God, and to the judge, then I really want your ass sitting in the front row when I do it!”.  I said, ‘Yup, she just got an Emmy’. And she surely did.

Yes, she has a lot of strong scenes, heartbreaking to say the least. I cried at her empty nest type scenes and I am no middle aged mother.

Her humor in her last few scenes was insightful as well, about gently pushing the kids out of the nest, mgic quarters, etc.
