Oh, and also Kerr for FHTE. Probably would have lost to Reed still.

Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society. The screentime is really secondary and easily he could pull a win if he was in supporting category.

Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line. The role was a clear supporting. I think the only reason she was leading was that she’s a household name.

Robin Williams for The Fisher King and Bruce Dern for Nebraska are two co-lead Actors that could have been argued down to Supporting and likely would have done much better against relatively weak winners.

Also, Annette Bening for American Beauty easily would have won if she had frauded, even against Jolie.

Annette Bening would easily win for American Beauty and wouldn’t even be a fraud.

Ditto for Talia Shire, Valerie Perrine and Mary Tyler Moore who all belong in Supporting.

Deborah Kerr also belongs firmly in Supporting for From Here to Eternity and I also believe she would’ve won.

No the Oscars got it right for once and didn’t allow the category fraud. It was the other awards that let the category fraud slip by. Never understood why the voters stood up against category fraud for once.

Interesting topic. For me Burstym was always lead, whereas Love, Stone were supporting.

I’m wondering what whould have happened had Blethyn and Jean-Baptiste switched categories.

Or if Hepburn would have won in supporting for Suddenly, Last Summer.

Interesting mention for Katharine Hepburn for Suddenly Last Summer.

Hepburn is definitely supporting.I’m glad she went lead because she didn’t deserve an Oscar for that.

I’m surprised that he didn’t go Supporting actually. His character is clearly not the lead of that film. At least he got his Oscar for Good Will Hunting though.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

Mara and Blanchett were definitely co-leads in Carol, but Mara was clearly the more Leading character, as she went through the most change and propelled the story. I don’t think Blanchett would’ve won again even if they had switched places (seeing as how she had just won two years before), but I think she would’ve been closer at least.

Ordinary People is one of my favorite films of all time. Extraordinary performances from all the actors. Mary Tyler Moore should have won that year. Timothy Hutton was definitely lead but it would have been a crime if he missed out on getting an oscar for his knockout performance.

If Winslet had been in Supporting for The Reader it is interesting to think of the domino effect that would have happened.

She’d have won there and Streep probably would have won lead for Doubt. So then Viola Davis would have beat Streep for The Help. So then with Fences Davis would probably have gone lead and Michelle Williams would have won supporting.

If Winslet wins in supporting, I also wonder what domino effect that has for Penelope Cruz.

Does The Weinstein Co. push her harder for Nine?
Does she get even nominated for Nine without the after-glow effect?
    Does Fergie get nominated instead?
Does she make less mainstream projects in the following years?
Does she win the Emmy for Versace instead?
Does the Emmy & her Almodovar comeback cause a groundswell & she wins supporting over Dern?

Bruce Dern is never supporting in Nebraska. The movie is all about him.
