Nina Arianda as Vivian Vance is miles better than Nicole as Lucy in Being the Ricardos.

Though I understand that The Help cast deserves every bit of their awards especially Octavia but she should’ve thanked Sissy Spacek. She made her performance funnier. That pie scene is 100x funnier because of Spacek.

    1. Slumdog Millionaire – Not a fan of the movie but the cast got zero attention.
    2. Cate Blanchett in Benjamin Button – She is a major reason the movie works and while I personally wouldn’t have nominated her, it felt a bit weird that Brad Pitt and Taraji kept getting nominated for everything and she didn’t. Also, the movie was nominated for 13 oscars.
    3. Michael Sheen in Frost/Nixon – Snubbed the ENTIRE season.
    4. Emily Watson in Gosford Park – She was so good in the movie (Hell, everyone was) but got no attention. Even Kristin Scott Thomas.

I always find it strange how Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain made into almost every precursor+the Oscars but Bryce Dallas Howard was overlooked.

Because she was playing a cartoon.

Nina Arianda as Vivian Vance is miles better than Nicole as Lucy in Being the Ricardos.

First off, Arianda is better cast than Kidman. Also, this year, I think there are many more awards worthy performances in the Supporting Actress category than in the Best Actress category which is why I agree, but it does not surprise me at all that Kidman is likely to get a nomination while Arianda has virtually no chance at one.

    Stephen Boyd from Ben Hur
Boyd gave the best performance in movie, and wasn’t even nominated

Put this in perspective Ben Hur won two acting Oscars, and the best performance wasn’t even nominated

Connie Nielsen in Gladiator seems so strange in retrospect of how successful that movie was; she’s literally the only female character in the movie, BP winner, BO smash, nominated co-stars, even has a small monologue at the end. I also find it odd that Richard Harris and especially Oliver Reed didn’t gain any traction either.

I still find it interesting that Omar Sharif was ignored for Doctor Zhivago. He won the Globe and the movie was a hit. I didn’t particularly like Julie Christie’s performance in the movie but she was ignored too. Interestingly the supporting roles gained traction, Courtenay was nominated but Chaplin wasn’t…I find it a shame that especially Sharif was snubbed for such an affecting and emotional performance.

    FYC:

Swinton, Weerasethakul Memoria, (Best Actress, Director)
Efira, Rampling, Wilson Benedetta (Best Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)
    Rapace Lamb (Best Actress)
Stewart, Hawkins, Spall Spencer (Best Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)
