He was great in The Report too. Not a ton of screen time but he used what he had.

So, why only Peter Dinklage is getting good work after it? The cast, especially women, aren’t getting offers. Only Peter Dinklage has great offers
Because Hollywood has a very narrow-minded view of which women are able to lead successful films. There are plenty of actors in the GOT cast who have the talent to win Oscars, but don’t get the roles/exposure due to age among other factors. Lena Headey has never been particularly interested in the limelight. Carice van Houten in Instinct was better than the entire best actress category last year, but the film was unable to get an international distributor after a festival run. She’s been the biggest actress in The Netherlands for a number of years though. Just last year, Natalie Dormer gave a fantastic performance in Penny Dreadful (and had already impressed before GOT in The Tudors), but isn’t offered many high profile roles.
Aside from those three, plenty of the actors who weren’t part of the central cast have also continued to get work (Bean, Dance, Dillane, Lesser, Varma, Huisman). Pedro Pascal is currently leading a huge Star Wars show, and Momoa has done well with Aquaman.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 25, 2021 at 5:38 am #1204060498The problem Emilia Clarke has is that no one treats her as a serious or prestigious actress. That might have changed had her production of The Seagull not been hampered by Covid but I think that’s the real reason she hasn’t really been offered anything.

To be fair to her acting career, she does also have a side hustle as a popstar.

I agree. Hollywood is ageist only against women. If you are a man, you could work until 91 like Clint Eastwood. But if you are not Meryl Streep, it’s over. For some weird reason, Hollywood 100% hates old women.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 25, 2021 at 9:35 am #1204060987While I find Clarke mediocre in some of those franchises, I thought her performance in Last Christmas was pretty sweet. If the film had been better quality, it could have been her breakthrough as a cinematic lead, and I’d still have nominated her at least for the Golden Globe that year, especially when you look at some of the nominees in the weaker Comedy/Musical category in general, this year for instance!
Dinklage seems to be doing fine, he was in a BP nominee, and if I Care a Lot is unexpectedly embraced could be a surprise nominee in Supporting.

Darling, what are you talking about? In my Thatcherian book, Queen Headey won at least 3 Emmys.

That sounds like a you problem, because since Bumblebee she’s gotten a solo Apple TV+ show AND a Disney+ show.
