I’m hopefully seeing it opening weekend. LOVED the show as a kid. Had all the toys. Taped almost every episode of the first 3 seasons. I’m excited for the remake to be honest. Plus, it can’t b worse than that awful Ivan Ooze crapfest they called a movie. Even as a kid, I hated that one.March 23, 2017 at 7:32 am #1202044483
Yes! I was absolutely OBSESSED as a kid. Toys, birthday parties, video games, clothes, Halloween, backpacks, folders, bedding, everything was Power Rangers with Jason (obviously) being my favorite. Stopped watching around Dino Thunder because I liked the earlier shows better but. I still actually sometimes watch Lost Galaxy on Netflix because I think it’s one of the best seasons. And I am actually excited for the movie. I don’t love remaking everything, especially something as sacred from my childhood as this, but I’ll watch it with a good attitude because I do want to like it.
The only problem is I feel like it’s not really wanting to be a Power Rangers movie though. Sounds more like some teen melodrama like Degrassi now or something. A Degrassi movie where, sidenote, they suddenly learn martial arts and have robots to fight crime. Like I need there to be more action and fighting than there is growing pains and relationship drama. But we’ll see.March 23, 2017 at 9:10 am #1202044589
Im super excited about this movie , it looks pretty damn good so far. Im super excited to see Elisabeth Banks and Bryan in the movie. I think it will be a good balance of action and melodrama based on the previews and im pretty excited.

Loved this movie and the decision to make Trini a lesbian and Billy autistic was a good idea actually since those two were the standouts acting wise to me out of the rangers. The rest were good…not great. Banks as Rita was perfection in my opinion. Loved that she was what she was in the past and that’s why they freed her 🙂 Sorry no spoilers from me. Cranston annoyed me as Zordon. Can’t really explain why he just did. Hader as Alpha was great in my opinion. That bonus scene at the end 🙂 YES! My fav is coming to the big screen. Don’t go see this expecting Oscar. It’s fun and nostalgic and a modern twist all at once. My grade: AMarch 26, 2017 at 9:09 am #1202046649
The producers said earlier last week they have enough stuff for a **6-movie** series.March 26, 2017 at 7:37 pm #1202047059
Well the first thing they need is huge public interest. They might have all the ideas in the world, they actually ran for years and years, so of course the material is there, however, public interest is another story. Just ask the Divergent people or the declining sales between Mockingjay 1 and 2.
As for the film…I mean, you make this film 20 something years after the campy series, spandex suits, plastic costumes, terrible low quality scenes with the zords…and this is what you do? They waited way over half the movie to show the Rangers and the Zords, or some great fights, and what we got was zords that looked like anything but dinosaurs (except the t-rex), a Megazord that formed inside a pit, with fire around it, so nobody got to see it, and then it just stood there, punched Goldar twice and slapped Rita to outer space in 1 minute. And that was it. So what’s the point? You have Transformers doing all sorts of crazy stuff, so there’s your inspiration. Not this static, dull looking robot that nobody could possibly recognize.
Seriously what exactly was the Black Zord supposed to be? I don’t know what that was. I see the original animal on the posters, I did not see it in the film. There was a scene showing a profile of the tiger and you couldn’t make any shape out of that head. Did the 90’s dino zords really outdo the ones that came 20 years later?
As for the kids. Well, first of all, the kid playing Jason is a Zach Efron look a like, I couldn’t stop thinking about this throught the film. It’s ridiculous how can Billy turn from autistic to over the top black guy in a second, he along with another black guy when he “beat” the ed sheeran looking kid in the lockers, reminded me of the “token black guy” from Not Another Teen Movie. Damn! Oooh shit! That is wack!. And what was the inspiration behind Zack? Woo from Survivor? Did they seriously cast yet another asian guy as the cool, laid back, almost surfer dude? For all the diversity they showed here, they sure managed to fill it up with cliches all over the place. The Kimberly girl was good.
Yes, everything was campy fun, but it’s one thing to sit and watch a campy show from the 90s today…and another very different thing to watch the same level of camp in a movie made in 2017, it just doesn’t work. It didn’t need to be like that. Not too serious of course, but not this. Too many cliches, too many bad jokes, too many unncessary things that ruin the film.
As for the one who could’ve ended up with the most ammount of embarrasment, I say that Elizabeth Banks will come out of this unscathed. She did her job, you can tell she did this for the fun of it, that she knew what she was doing and she did great. Whatever shitty lines she got it’s no ther fault. If anything I would just blame her for the tiresome “slowly tilt the head to the side” move that everybody does when they’re the bad guy/girl threatening you in your face. She’s better than that.
Nostalgia was there. The original theme song, Kimberly and Tommy in a cameo, I’ve Got The Power as the closing song (it was on the original film) and things like that. Yes, I got a kick out many things in the film, but I can’t forgive silly, shitty, cliche stuff as just “it’s not for the Oscars”, “It’s nostalgia” and so on. They could’ve taken a lot of that stuff out and still end up with a pretty great film. Specially if they want to make a six more. We’ll see how next weekend goes. At least they had a very decent opening that already outgrossed the original.March 30, 2017 at 8:43 pm #1202051123
I was surprised at how good this really was. Usually films like this don’t take the time to create character development, but this one does. I thought all the actors playing the Rangers were really good, and it was actually kind of refreshing for all of these rangers to have some kind of problem they were each dealing with rather than be perfect people like they usually are in the shows. I do think Jason, Billy and Kimberly got a little more development than Zack or Trini, but it’s better than no development at all. And Bryan Cranston and Bill Hader brought their own interpretations of Zordon and Alpha to the table while still paying homage in some way to their original counterparts.
I’ve heard a lot of people complain about Elizabeth Banks being too over-the-top as Rita Repulsa, but in this case I think it actually worked because it showed how Rita’s overconfidence in herself became her ultimate weakness. 7 out of 10 is my final grade.April 3, 2017 at 8:48 am #1202053566

So, I saw this yesterday and actually loved it! Like it’s not some awards worthy masterpiece, but it was so entertaining and nostalgic and overall a fair balance of drama and action. The teen angst part wasn’t about like no wifi to post a snapchat story or lesbian problems the way people and sites were making it seem. It was like just not knowing where you belong and trying to find purpose outside what’s expected from you. Kind of reminded me a lot of Spider-Man, The Breakfast Club, and Code Lyoko, all of which I love so I really enjoyed Power Rangers and want to see it again.April 3, 2017 at 8:04 pm #1202053973
Those box office numbers are BEYOND disappointing. It’s a bummer because the movie is thoroughly enjoyable. I really want a continuation of the story.April 3, 2017 at 8:21 pm #1202053984
Hey, it’s certainly doing better than the other Power Rangers movies did in their day.June 14, 2017 at 8:56 am #1202120936
