Hi! So the day has finally come and we have our nominees. While we have our individual threads to talk about who we think it’s going to win a respective category, I thought it fit to have one to predict every winner and also compare our predictions now with the actual winners after the Oscars happen. Everyone is encouraged to give their reasoning and elaboration for their predictions!

I’ll start; Pre-SAG/BAFTA predictions in the top 8 categories + International Feature:

Best Picture: The Power of the Dog (spoiler: Belfast)

Best Director: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog (spoiler: Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza)

Best Actress: Olivia Colman, The Lost Daughter (spoiler: Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos)

Best Supporting Actor: Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Power of the Dog
    (Troy Kotsur, CODA)

Best Supporting Actress: Ariana DeBose, West Side Story (spoiler: Kirsten Dunst, The Power of the Dog

Best Picture to Belfast, which is going to do a Spotlight preferential ballot win and surprise everyone. (Spoiler: West Side Story)

Best Director to Jane Campion, but Kenneth Branagh could be the surprise winner or Steven Spielberg.

Best Actor to Will Smith if he wins SAG, and to Benedict Cumberbatch if he wins SAG or BAFTA. This one needs clarifying precursors before the Oscars.

Best Actress to Olivia Colman – never underestimate her! or Nicole Kidman.

Best Supporting Actor to Ciaran Hinds if he wins BAFTA; otherwise Kodi will win it.

Best Supporting Actress to Ariana DeBose.

Original Screenplay will go to Belfast.

Adapted Screenplay will go to doggy Dog.

I think Cumberbatch could take it tbh, but I need to see SAG first. If DMC wins adapted I won’t be surprised either.

Best Picture to Belfast, which is going to do a Spotlight preferential ballot win and surprise everyone. (Spoiler: West Side Story)…

I would love for that to happen, but Spotlight did have that crucial Editing nomination. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, every Best Picture winner in the past 20+ years (except for Birdman, which was a unique film) was also nominated for Best Editing. Not a great statistic for Belfast
