I just learned that Clancy Brown — the voice actor for Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants — is in this movie, playing Carey’s dad.
Brown has several other performances that have been overlooked (especially in The Shawshank Redemption). What are the chances that he gets a nomination someday?

That’s old news. Variety already apologize as well.

Thanks for telling me that.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 18, 2021 at 2:19 pm #1204048774Mulligan gave a stunning performance, easily the best of her career. Cassandra was a fascinating character – living with her parents, failure at work, studies and romance and yet… unbothered about all that with only one thing on her mind when entire world already moved on.
The movie was breathtaking. So many different things going on at once, contrast of exterior facade and interior intentions. It was a splendid mash-up of genres. Personally I’ve had associations towards some movies like:
“Kill Bill” – methodical revisiting of wrongdoers from the past
“Trainwreck” – goofy and smart boyfriend type, basically Bill Hader
“Klute” – listening to the tape – moment to seal Best Actress winand few others I forgot now.
I was skeptical that Cassie’s antics would remain a secret that long and she wouldn’t run towards anyone she knew before (when it happened, it was one of the strongest scenes and punch in the gut). Kudos for Alison Brie for starring in this movie, channeling her inner Trudy Campbell – when she said “You’ll get there” regarding children, I was reminded how Trudy told Peggy “26 is still very young” on “Mad Men”. 🙂 Why was Madison not at the wedding, though, if “two of her favorite people in the world” were getting married? It would’ve been a reunion between Ruth and Bash from “GLOW”. 🙂
I loved set design(s), soundtrack choices (“Toxic” was especially well done as Carey was looking many times like Britney Spears, I thought), costumes, editing (with a few exceptions). Emerald Fennell, Camilla Parker Bowles from “The Crown” (!), did a stellar job – Best Director nod (at least) and Best Original Screenplay win (totally!) should be hers.
Film works BECAUSE of its ending and especially the very final resolution. Very eerie, precise and thoughtful. I thought it was a clever idea and the best conclusion possible given the intensity of Cassie’s emotions and how successful she was at getting under skin of other people. For me the best film of the season (from what I saw).

Saw it 2 weeks ago. Carey was good in it but I don’t understand the hype. I thought the film was pretty mediocre.

I wouldn’t be surprise if PYW will have Gone Girl treatment come Oscar nominations announcement.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 20, 2021 at 12:52 pm #1204052067It is possible, but I maintain that this film’s pro-feminist message distinguishes it by giving it a significant rooting factor. Gillian Flynn on the other had worried that she had killed feminism by making Gone Girl.
