Isabelle Adjani give single handily the best performance I’ve ever seen in possession. She has so many showy scenes from fighting with Sam Neill too the monologue in the flashback to playing the duel role of Anna/Helen. However the subway scene is by god the BEST acting I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. Her mental breakdown is electrifying her laughs and screams. Her body movements is impressive as if she having an exorcism. But damn her scream has she bleeding out from the miscarriage was fucked up and haunting. She should’ve won the oscars for best actress.

ReplyCopy URLAugust 17, 2020 at 9:39 pm #1203651877Recently watched Our Souls at Night. Who else has seen it? It’s a really sweet and moving film and Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are wonderful in it.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 18, 2020 at 4:31 am #1203652168It’s kinda funny how at one point Hustlers, Joker & Uncut Gems all had Scorsese attached/interested to direct and all of them played the same festival (TIFF-19) and the same yearly quarter, in a year where Scorsese himself had a new film out.

At the same time, I don’t see how it can be at all profitable for them to release it worldwide this coming quarter..

ReplyCopy URLAugust 19, 2020 at 5:31 pm #1203655772I find it so frustrating that comedy actor/actresses, directors/writers and films don’t get the respect they deserve come award season.
Comedies are supposed to make money. Not necessarily garner critical acclaim. Hence the lack of award season expectation for them. Marisa Tomei’s win carries with it a stigma of controversy because it wasn’t a respectable comedy vehicle she won for. But something crass and wholly mainstream.

Whoopi needs projects that play to her strengths as a performer like How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Lange has a preference for parts that require outburst of big emotion.

I felt similarly about Roma because the movie implied that being a strong, soft-spoken, generous person like the main hero is a virtue (which it is, I guess, but that’s not the only way to live, you know, especially if the person is not privileged).
But I decided to be more generous to the directors and the film. In the end, they’re making a personal film, and they are being honest and earnest. I don’t have to be 100% on board with their sentiment to appreciate their good faith.
