So, we have six acting winners from last night’s Golden Globe Awards. Let’s do something fun. Rank from 1 (being most likely) to 6 (least likely) to go from last night’s win to Oscar victory.

Again, the Golden Globe winners are: Brad Pitt, Laura Dern, Awkwafina, Taron Egerton, Joaquin Phoenix, and Renée Zellweger.

For me, this is the ranking:

    1. Laura Dern 2. Joaquin Phoenix 3. Brad Pitt 4. Renee Zellweger 5. Awkwafina 6. Taron Egerton

Pitt, Dern, Phoenix, and Zellweger are all winning. I’m a little less confident in Zellweger but she will likely win

Nearly every year (except for 2009, 2010 and 2017 – the years of The Hurt Locker, The King’s Speech, and The Shape of Water), there are three locks and one iffier contender. I think Zellweger might be the iffy one. She already has an Oscar (for a truly mediocre performance) and her film is not a contender in any other category (except for make-up & hairstyling, and that’s a maybe). Her speeches are somehow both a snoozefest and a truly weird/entitled experience. But if not her, who will win? There are no alternatives. I doubt Scarlett can muster enough goodwill to win SAG in the end.

I don’t think it’s happening, but there’s a loooooot of goodwill towards Awkwafina. Young people are really celebrating her win and historical feat. She will be nominated for an Oscar.

Dern, Phoenix, Pitt, and Zellweger are winning, all of which sucks.

Egerton and Awkwafina are safe for nominations I guess.
