So, apparently Rebecca is being remade. Lily James as Mrs. de Winter, Armie Hammer as Maxim, and Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers.

    Thoughts?

I really hope this only gets released next year. Netflix already has WAY too much in their hands and I can see some movies getting lost.

Why is this being remade? I really liked Rebecca, but I am not sure how this will turn out

Diana Rigg won an Emmy for a TV version. Anyone ever see it? I can’t imagine anyone coming close to Judith Anderson.

(and nobody could direct the fire scene like Hitchcock)

Rigg was the only nominee for the series so I guess it wasn’t that great.

I don’t how this movie will turn out but if they decide to release it this year, it just means Netflix has no problem sacrificing possible awards consideration for it as they have like 10 bigger films to about.

Rebecca is a solid picture but might be my least favorite of Hitchcock’s most acclaimed and well-known movies. So, I don’t mind a remake. Armie Hammer and Lily James, though? We’ll see.

That’s old news really. Armie Hammer as Maxim is miscast. Also how are they going to sell the narratie in this day and age of dude killing his own wife because, from his words, she was a mega bitch?

Why does this even need to be remade?

Wasn’t this already remade in 2017? It was called Phantom Thread and it was great.

I actually caught a late-night airing of this on PBS Masterpiece earlier this year. It’s a short miniseries (I believe only two episodes!) but found it quite good. It is definitely less gothic in tone and more subtle in its cues for suspense than the Hitchcock film, but what it achieves is powerful nonetheless and the performances are all top-notch. Diana Rigg, however, is standout. Her Mrs. Danvers is compelling throughout, and much like Judith Anderson, simply commands the screen. Interestingly, I found that Rigg brings a certain sensibility and emotional depth to the role that doesn’t quite come to fruition with Anderson’s portrayal. I had no idea (and was so happy to learn) that Rigg won an Emmy for this miniseries! I’ll have to look up who her competition was that year, but simply judging off of her performance alone, Rigg makes a very worthy winner.

Those are interesting casting choices for the new Rebecca remake. Kristin Scott Thomas could really ace the role of Mrs. Danvers and I’m looking forward to seeing how she’s approached it.

They’re only 4 years apart, when Maxim is supposed to be 15 years + older than her. And neither of them match the book descriptions/personalities, although I’m optimistic. I don’t see it being a hit with the Academy, even if it is good.

    rubbish
