If remade, The Hours would probably work really well as a miniseries. Here would be the cast if it were produced by Ryan Murphy for Netflix lol:

    Chloë Zevigny as Virginia Woolf
    Jessica Chastain as Laura Brown
    Sarah Paulson as Clarissa Vaughan
    Tom Hiddleston as Leonard Woolf
    Kate Winslet as Vanessa Bell
    Billy Crudup as Dan Brown
Neil Patrick Harris as Richard “Richie” Brown
    Matt Bomer as Louis Waters
    Lily Rabe as Kitty
    Connie Britton as Sally Lester
Jo Ellen Pellman as Julia Vaughan
    Patti LuPone as Mrs. Latch

This is hard because I think The Hours is perfectly cast, except for Nicole Kidman. Kidman just didn’t do it for me—it was like look I’m acting!. Moore & Streep hit me like a train car, Kidman took me out of it. She was fine, maybe it was the intensely prosthetic nose.

I’m going to choose actors who are roughly the age the original cast was then, since…it’s been a while since the film came out!

    Virginia Woolf – Rebecca Hall
    Laura Brown – Kirsten Dunst
    Clarissa Vaughan – Olivia Colman

    Leonard Woolf – Ben Whishaw
Vanessa Bell – Jena Malone/Vanessa Kirby
    Richard Brown – Michael Fassbender
    Sally Lester – Laura Linney
    Julia Vaughan – Eliza Scanlen
    Kitty – Laura Dern

Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.

The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur

    !???!?!!??!??!??!?!?!??!?!!?

WOW lol I cannot get over this choice, it’s a little terrifying

No need to recast perfection. But casting for a limited series made today, that’s something worth considering, I guess.

Aha, I would be so down for The Hours to be remade as a mini-series because I still think there is so much that can be done with it maybe giving each timeline and individual episode. So here’s who I would cast

Virginia Woolf – Lady Gaga (I maintain she’d nail it)
    Leonard Woolf – Alexander Skarsgård
    Vanessa Bell – Samantha Morton

    Laura Brown – Rose Byrne
    Dan Brown – Matthew Macfadyen

    Kitty – Shailene Woodley

    Clarissa Vaughan – Gillian Anderson
    Richard Brown – Guy Pearce

    Sally Lester – Rachel McAdams

The train station scene between Virginia and Leonard is heart breaking. The acting is beyond superb! I cannot understand why Stephen Dillane was not given more recognition for his performance.
