Haven’t seen the new trailer yet, but I don’t think we’ll need to keep our eye on Marlon Wayans. We’ve already seen Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler get rejected by awards bodies when they gave acclaimed performances likely due to their previous immature comedies (though in Sandler’s case last year, he had an extremely crowded field), and I don’t imagine that Wayans will manage to get much farther than the two of them as I don’t think he’s been in something well received since Requiem for a Dream.

I didn’t see an ounce of Aretha in that performance.

Either Jennifer Hudson is gonna go 2 for 2 at the Oscars…
…or she will be the Taron Egerton to Renee Zellweger’s Rami Malek

June 29, 2020 at 7:55 am #1203556889I don’t understand this casting decision at all. That was just Jennifer Hudson singing Respect. Nothing else. We’ll see…
ReplyCopy URLJune 29, 2020 at 8:17 am #1203556928She’s a great singer, but a bad actress, and so I can’t see how this will work as a movie. I don’t think this will work for her a second time round, beloved as Aretha is.

ReplyCopy URLJune 29, 2020 at 10:28 am #1203557174Looks like we’re getting a worthy biopic of a unique musical genius. It doesn’t look like a visionary masterpiece but it doesn’t look like an embarrassing disaster either.

The fact that it isn’t a disaster from the teaser means it hopped over hurdle one. Now if critical response is warm and favorable — all else they need is box office — not sure how that’ll work?
