The career of Blanchett is one of a kind. Creative impulses and curiosity of what kind of world each director brought her into, was the main reason. As her family got more members, Blanchett has been clear that the family schedule has made her turn down some roles. Lets take a look. Was the “right” actress chosen? What kind of possibility did that represent for a certain actress in a given role?
2002: Agatha played by Samantha Morton. Director Steven Spielberg
2004: Anna played by Julia Roberts. Director Mike Nichols
2004: Portia played by Lynn Collins. Director Michael Radford
2006: Isabel Creo played by Rachel Weisz. Director Darren Aronfosky
2015: Marianne Lane played by Tilda Swinton. Director Luca Guadagnino
2015: Melissa Lewis played by Jessica Chastain. Director Ridley Scott
2018: Lady Sarah played by Rachel Weisz. Director Yorgos Lanthimos.Spielberg really wanted to work with her and so they did with Irina Spalko.
Mike Nichols never got the chance to work with her. But the tight script by Patrick Marber in Closer, resulted in Marber writing a role for Blanchett as Sheba Heart in Notes on a Scandal.
Darren Aronofsky still has the chance to work with her. I pray oh pray! Imagine these two talents together!
Luca Guadagnino still has the chance. And according to an interview she had a hard time getting over a role she passed on. Was it Marianne or Lady Sarah?
Ridley Scott and Blanchett already worked together in the mediocre Robin Hood from 2010
Yorgos Lanthimos and Blanchett is gonna be major,IF that ever happensOther notes:

I don’t know of any specific witch roles she turned down, but I remember she only accepted The Witch in Into the Woods cause she had been interested in doing a Sondheim musical.

I think it was when she was 40. I think I started a thread on this once. We concluded she was a rounding off the dates a little but the films were Hocus Pocus, The Witches (the one with Angelica Huston) and I forget the third. Something in the early 90s.

IMDB has a video now that says she was considered for, but did not get couple of high profile roles:
– Clarice in Hannibal,
– Roxie in Chicago,
– Ada in Cold Mountain,
– Jane in Mr. and Mrs. Smith,
– Mrs. Fox in Fantastic Mr. Fox.I also read an interview with her, where she said she wanted to play Bridget Jones.

While I think she would’ve been fantastic and maybe an Oscar winner, I find it hard to picture Blanchett in The Favourite. I guess I can’t see her not as the lead of a film unless it’s something like LOTR.
Interesting to think of Blanchett as Bridget Jones. Zellweger really owns the role.

Hopefully someone else has done that already 🙂
