    In honor of today, America’s 242nd birthday, Rotten Tomatoes has released a list called 50 States, 50 Essential Movies. This highlights the best movie representing each of the 50 states based on these factors:

    1. Setting
    2. Cultural depiction
    3. Filming location
    4. Critical acclaim

    With that criteria, here’s what Rotten Tomatoes has picked as the best film for each state:

    There are so many question marks here, but I guess I’ll mention the only one I’m really qualified to talk about: South Carolina.

    I can’t really think of a whole lot of films set in South Carolina, but I know that The Patriot is not the best.

    For the best film from South Carolina, my personal favorites are The Big Chill and Magic Mike XXL, but you could go with like several Nicholas Sparks movies, The Secret Life of Bees, or even Doc Hollywood.
