People saying Day will win now are making no sense. SAG are more accurate than the Globes at predictions and are made up of actual industry members. Viola Davis won with thousands of Academy voters, while Day won with 85 foreign journalists, 1 of which is an Academy voter. How has this in any way secured Day’s win? All it’s done is make Viola the frontrunner.

All 4 PoC winning Oscars would be absolutely iconic

But if an actor chooses to go Lead with limited screentime and wins, why is that an issue? I’ve said multiple times that Hopkins should have been supporting in Lambs, but he went lead and won. Good for them.

Well, we have seen a lot of actors and actresses win awards with category frauds. It’s really sad though, because the real lead performances don’t get to win when they should.

It’s the narrative and the fact that Ma Rainey’s isn’t winning two acting Oscars with no Best Picture nomination. Not in the preferential era

I frankly don’t like most of you enough to scroll through and read all of these comments, but someone needs to explain to me what the thought process is behind Andra Day being the frontrunner now that Viola Davis won SAG. Make it make sense. The only real conclusion you can draw is that it boosts Davis and hurts Mulligan (and potentially McDormand or Kirby, but they still have a shot at winning a major precursor if BAFTA still counts). Depending on how BAFTA goes we may have different winners in both actress categories going into Oscar night and honestly, that’s the only compelling part of this season that I have really lost interest in, whether due to my passive appreciation but lack of passion for most of these performances, or the extended timeline that feels like we’re rewarding films from a different lifetime. On a positive note, I am thrilled for Youn Yuh Jung and her potential Oscars victory is the one thing I’m really invested in for the next few weeks. And let me just say as someone who doesn’t have his heart in it this season, the abbreviated ceremony worked fine for me. Truly cannot wait for the Oscars to finally happen and move on.

Literally, my opinion as well. Really don’t understand this confidence that Viola winning SAG helps Day. Like…at all. Viola is hugely respected within the Industry and her movie is also bigger.

Dude it’s just an awards show, don’t take it so personal, it’s not like you have anything to do with these celebrities 😂😂 and what are you talking about? Y’all trashed Viola this ENTIRE season… plus everyone was trashing you in the comments section throughout. Go back and read You Mulligan Stans are in another realm of saltiness 😂😂

FYC: All things The Crown, Hacks and I May Destroy You (and Hannah Waddingham and Julianne Nicholson whilst you're at it)!!

Vanessa, please campaign harder! BAFTA will have the last word.

    BAFTA is irrelevant this year.

I feel personally attacked by Carey’s loss. Andra really gonna snatch that Oscar now, isn’t she?

Viola also won in 2012, remember? To me this was more of a nod to diversity (all 4 POC winners) and the unnominated Day than a win for Viola herself, even though it did help her secure more Oscar votes.

If she didn’t win supp just a few years ago then it would’ve been a wrap.

Promising Young Woman isn’t the favorite some thought. It might go 0/6 at Oscars if Fennell is upset in Screenplay. We shouldn’t underestimate Trial 7. It will win somewhere.

I have no clue who wins the Oscar now. Could be anyone, really.
