Exactly. SAG might be populist, but it is still ruled by ACTORS. By a huge margin.
Will Smith is the biggest lock of this ceremony.
Troy Kotsur fits the Youn Yuh-jung demographic/narrative. Kodi Smit-McPhee would be a very atypical winner here.
Belfast is OBVIOUSLY winning Ensemble. It’s an Actors movie. A Best Picture frontrunner. The same way Trial of the Chicago 7, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Spotlight and Birdman won.
It’s between Jessica Chastain and Nicole Kidman. Two hugely popular, established actresses in transformative biopic performances.
And I think Caitríona Balfe is winning SAG. She’s not just the young “Outlander girl”. She’s 42 years old. A popular working actress in both Film and Television. For over 20 years. Playing a supportive mother, in Belfast, the Oscar frontrunner and SAG Ensemble nominee.
January 21, 2022 at 5:50 pm #1204742857Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ariana DeBose are atypical SAG winners. Very young, very new, not established
That explains why Lupita Nyong’o lost SAG for her very first film role!

Lupita Nyongo was a POC actress in a POC Best Picture frontrunner, and SAG Ensemble winner. The same way Ruby Dee and Idris Elba won SAG as the only POC nominees in their categories, in SAG Ensemble nominees.
What is not clicking?
January 21, 2022 at 6:03 pm #1204742876With Aunjanue Ellis snubbed, I don’t think anyone will be able to win over DeBose at SAG. Had Ellis made it in, she would have seemed the logical alternative considering SAG’s affinity for veterans.
Caitríona Balfe is winning SAG. And most definitely winning BAFTA. COME ON NOW.

Who do you think will win over them then?

Let Balfe first get nominated at BAFTA which is not a sure thing by any means.

January 21, 2022 at 6:26 pm #1204742904Balfe stopped being the frontrunner when she got a combined total of 2 awards at the critics circuit (along with numerous snubs with various critics bodies’ nominations) and lost the Globe to Ariana DeBose. And considering both Belfast boys missed SAG and The Power of the Dog has the most acting nominations, I’d wager Dunst is the most likely following DeBose, putting both ahead of Balfe easily. Some have even argued Dunst has that veteran factor that could aid her in potentially winning SAG.
• FYC: Everything Everywhere All at Once in any and every single category, especially Best Picture, Michelle Yeoh in Actress, Stephanie Hsu in Supporting Actress, The Daniels in Director/Screenplay, Paul Rogers in Editing, and Son Lux in Score.

Ariana DeBose is not white and Kodi is in an all-white category so not sure what you’re going for here.
Caitríona Balfe is winning SAG. And most definitely winning BAFTA. COME ON NOW.
Please if Balfe couldn’t even win at the globes, who love her, then she’s not winning anywhere.

Keep jinxing Belfast like you projected the movie to take Drama, Director, and Supporting Actor at the Globes.

January 22, 2022 at 1:34 am #1204743226DeBose is winning in a landslide. Seriously.
January 22, 2022 at 3:05 am #1204743287Troy Kotsur is also not an established actor, although he’s older than Smit-McPhee. I’m probably just hopedicting, but TPOTD got 3 individual acting nominations, so there’s passion for the performances.
I would be really surprised if Ariana DeBose doesn’t win Supporting Actress at SAG. Provided they had time to watch WSS, this is the only place where they can reward it if they liked it.
