I hate to pile on to Melissa Barrera, but I had to look her up when I got home and realized that she was Vanessa from In The Heights. My ITH theatre disliked her so much that people started groaning under their breaths whenever it changed from plots with Nina, etc. 😭

I feel like there was one big moment with Melissa where she was really good (and if you’ve seen the movie I think you know what moment I’m talking about) , but the rest was pretty rough. Jenna literally ran circles around her LMFAO

Jenna’s is my favorite performance too. Idk if it’s because i watched a YouTuber’s review beforehand but Melissa’s performance is bland for me.

    Slight spoiler

Dewey’s last scene in the movie is my favorite. Hated that phone call because a cop with a purpose.. hmm.. whatever. the moment is still good

The scenes at the party was funny.

I just love movies. And awards.

Variety reported a $24 million budget, so this is a fantastic start.

I just got back from seeing it and I loved it. I like how they played homage to the original, too. I do wish they would have spent more time developing the new characters. The last act was phenomenal! It was really well executed.

Jenna Ortega ate this the fuck up and left no crumbs. One of the best non-trio performances this franchise has ever seen, up there with Drew Barrymore and Parker Posey. Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mikey Madison were really great as well. The trio was reliable as always. Minnette was the only one I didn’t care much about in the end.

The script was sharp and smart with great dialogue (as expected), and the third act is just superior in every way. Williamson outdid himself. Some very memorable kills as well. I missed Wes Craven’s involvement even if the new directors did a great job.

It will require a few more viewings for me to start thinking about its ranking in the series but all I’ll say is Scream remains the superior horror franchise for a reason.

Honey, I’m still shook by that final act! And that soon to be iconic line. “Welcome to Act 3”

    I was shook.

OK, here we go… Scream is my favorite franchise. In the slasher world, it’s the most consistent series and I appreciate  that. However, I didn’t love this one. There were a couple of scenes that were really well executed. My main issue is the writing. Even from the trailer you could figure out who the killer was (who edited that???), and after the gun reveal (well done), the third act was really stupid, even by Scream standards. I know what they were doing with the motive, but it was a lame one. No way around it.
The cast is just a little bit better than the one in 4. Savoy Brown would make Randy proud, so I’m happy on that end. I’m a nostalgic bitch so I enjoyed it the most when the Original Trio was onscreen. Neve Campbell is an icon for us gay horror fans. However, the last scene made no fucking sense (once again even by Scream standards). Someone needs peace once and for all. Little changes in my overall ranking

Scream (love that gem, it’s perfect, bless Craven)

    Scream 2 (90s realness)

Scream 3 (it’s not scary at all, but Parker Posey did that and it was telling us about the HW mess so ahead of time). Such a consistent weird movie. I’m probably the only person in the world who doesn’t have at the bottom lol

Scream 5 (it was good, now let’s move on to more inventive twists)

Scream 4 (I hate that porno filter)
