The last little womens all flopped at oscars so confused about how they typically love the story.

I haven’t seen the last Little Women, but I have to guess they just didn’t think it was a very successful movie. Clearly they thought the new one was.

That’s kind of why there’s an award for Adapted Screenplay in the first place. Just because you are adapting something great doesn’t mean it will be great too.

Thank you for introducing me to the USC Scripter awards. I had no idea they even existed, but they’re actually the most reliable precursor in this category: 8/10 this decade, vs WGA’s 6/10 and BAFTA/CC’s 4/10. I think I’ll just predict whoever they give the win to: hopefully Jojo Rabbit. Side note: WGA is actually more reliable than BAFTA, as you can see based on the statistics above. So Jojo would be better with WGA than BAFTA in a split.

BAFTA has the advantage right now of being the only one to call the winner last year when the precursors all went different directions. BAFTA has also been doing much better recently, which is most relevant. They have gotten three of the four winners since the diversification and expansion of the academy membership.

So happy to hear this news! I really want her to win the Oscar for Little Women! (:

I knew the Critics’ Choice win for Greta Gerwig wasn’t a fluke. I’ve been predicting her since day one and now for once I’m vindicated. I don’t see her losing WGA and I’m not even sure she needs BAFTA to win the Oscar.

Greta needed to win the Scripter award to pretty much seal her fate to win the Oscar. Little Women is such a joy to watch, freshened up for today’s audiences but without losing its 19th-century quaintness. She’s going to take home an Oscar this time.

Do we really think AMPAS will give the 4th cinematic iteration of Little Women AS especially when a version already won that award before?

Hope Parasite can upset in OS. It would be nice for Bong to get an award besides for foreign film. Hopefully voters won’t just name-check Tarantino.

Why wouldn’t they? They know Tarantino far better than they know Joon-Ho.

Greta’s receiving so much praise and winning so many awards because she actually did something unique for a 4th take. She made it fresh for today’s audience while staying true to its nature. That’s why she’s winning. And deservedly so. Also, I feel there are a fair share of moments that highlight the quality of the writing that the other nominees don’t quite have.

It’s funny how Adapted Screenplay was the most unpredictable above-the-line category until it wasn’t. I was right with at least one of my 2 predicted outcomes though: Little Women will sweep all the way to the Oscars. Now hopefully Parasite can pull an upset in Original.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

I think Once Upon a Time is comfortably winning Original Screenplay. The only real upsets in this category that come to mind for me, at least in recent years, were both Golden Globe winners: Birdman and Green Book. Once Upon a Time has both Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice. There’s very little chance of it losing. Also, RIP Jojo Rabbit.

Three Billboards was also upset by Get Out. And La La Land by Manchester. Upsets happen quite a bit in this category recently: 4 times in the last 5 years. Once isn’t at WGA, so if they give it to Parasite I think it has a chance to reverse momentum in it’s favor. If not, then Once wins.

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

Literally the two most important Adapted Screenplay precursors have not been awarded yet.
