Ha, no one’s voting for The Irishman! Second place my ass. Looks like the race is a lot closer than I thought between Joker and Littke Women (and Jojo Rabbit nipping at their heels). I still think based on how the precursors have gone that Little Women has the advantage in this category: plus it has that universal adoration that Jojo and Joker are lacking. But we’ll see what happens at WGA and BAFTA.

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

Only 9 movies won Adapted Screenplay without Best Director nomination since 1957: Elmer Gantry (1961), Missing (1983), Dangerous Liaisons (1989), Driving Miss Daisy (1990), Sense and Sensibility (1996), Sling Blade (1997), Gods and Monsters (1999), Argo (2013), Call Me By Your Name (2018).

Stats don’t matter in this race anymore. Little Women’s got all the momentum right now. Unless it loses at WGA and BAFTA it will win the Oscar.

Yeah it’s like people don’t know what USC scripter is. They award the author along with the writer. She was always going to win that. Means nothing for Oscar. Jojo is killing it in the guilds thus far and think it will pick up another win at WGA.

So the USC Scripter being so reliable in this category counts for nothing or what? Includoing the authors is just what they do. And if they were rewarding films solely for the author then why didn’t the 1994 adaptation win? It’s still Little Women’s to lose and Jojo Rabbit should’ve won SOMETHING by now.

I’m predicting Jojo Rabbit now. It seems to be loved by the industry.

It cant be reliable if they cant even nominate Spike Lee. And little women didnt win in 94 because freakin schindler’s list won. lol Thats not a strong argument for your case.

The Spike Lee thing is a rare case that’s far from frequent. And 1994 Little Women was not competing against 1993’s Schindler’s List it was competing against 1994’s Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump. I get why it didn’t win, but get your f***ing history right!!!

Greta Gerwig is going to win the Oscar for Little Women in Adapted Screenplay. A woman hasn’t won in this category in 12 years, and she did an excellent job in adapting and modifying the screenplay for today’s audiences.

    Jojo Rabbit? Please.

I don’t care how much you like Little Women, don’t write off Jojo Rabbit like that. It’s script is bold, hilarious, heartwarming, tear jerking, and a million times more unique than the other nominees.

Obviously if Parasite loses WGA, that would mean Hollywood would take Screenplay.

I don’t get that line of thinking. If Hollywood was eligible for WGA and beat Parasite, then that would be pretty rational thinking. But if something else wins at WGA other than Parasite (I’m not completely counting out Marriage Story) then it would make more sense to predict that.

I think Jojo’s script is fantastic too, but that film’s been paid dirt since winning TIFF, and did pretty poorly at the box office (especially compared to the other non-Netflix Picture nominees). It has won a few smaller guilds, but Jojo just doesn’t seem to be enough of a consensus pick to win major prizes. Meanwhile, Little Women is red hot right now: everyone loves it, and the Academy is most likely rethinking that Gerwig snub after all the outcry, so this gives them the perfect opportunity to amend that. Oh well. As long as The Irishman or The Two Popes don’t win, I’ll be happy.

Oh yeah, and sTaTS, I know, but Little Women did win USC Scripter, which has an 8/10 accuracy this decade, plus Critic’s Choice. So it looks very likely to sweep the remaining precursors in what was once a wide-open race.

Holy shit, Parasite is going to sweep if these voters represent the majority! It might even steal Director from Mendes (only one person in that article voted for Mendes over Bong). I’m still predicting Picture and Screenplay for now, but all of you saying “Parasite isn’t as well liked as 1917” need to swallow your pride.

And before you guys say “It’s just a small sample of voters, they don’t reflect the majority”, I remember people saying the same thing when Green Book was getting Top 3 on everyone’s ballots. Ironically enough, Green Boon won the same way I’m predicting Parasite to: it was a lock for one Oscar, but pulled an upset in Original Screenplay and was then able to win Picture as well.

Parasite is universally loved, and almost everyone who’s seen it will put it in their Top 3. 1917 is really well liked too, but there are some like me who find it hollow and emotionally void. Plus it has a huge disadvantage in major branches like Acting, Writing, and Editing.
