That voter reminds me of Rex Reed in the way they don’t even seem to like movies so much as they like feeling superior to things

Very true. But it’s endemic. Some voters have admitted to letting their kids watch and choose. I’ve seen others admit to asking their friends. It’s awful.
But the “genius” thing and what he says about the other terrific films…you can’t fix that.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses whiteMarch 24, 2022 at 10:25 pm #1204874943I’m just grateful this THR voter decided to throw a mercy vote to Wegner for Cinematography despite putting TPOTD dead last. If they can vote for her, anyone can.

Again I say: if none of you Oscar voters want to pay attention and vote, send them to me! I will vote for you! You don’t have to worry about a thing!

I found it sort of ironic that they essentially disagreed with Campion’s speech at CC based off the fact he doesn’t think women have it all that hard anymore as directors (hmmm, the, assuming Jane wins, THREE female director wins disagree with you there…) and voted for POTD in cinematography.

I prefer my roses whiteMarch 24, 2022 at 10:43 pm #1204874976So who do we suppose it is? They said they worked with Olivia Colman before and they’re a director.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 24, 2022 at 11:16 pm #1204874991In a interview conducted with Paul Raci, they mention he’s rooting for CODA. Troy and Raci are very close so the more detached response in that EW ballot was already a red flag as was the assumption that Raci has been part of high profile films. The desperation around here is getting embarasssing.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 24, 2022 at 11:24 pm #1204874999Quick question here: was there some prior evidence in the anonymous ballots that Bong Joon-ho was going to upset in Director over Mendes? Because the shocking tie between Campion and Spielberg is low-key scaring me at this point lmao.

I didn’t think that was Raci’s ballot, either. Yeah, that was the intro mention that didn’t pass the smell test for me – Raci’s biggest-profile feature film prior to Sound of Metal was that <Bruce Lee biopic em>Dragon in the 1990s, and it was a tiny role.

Additionally, backing CODA means you’re backing a woman-helmed feature, too, so that defangs any issues about being on the “wrong side” of history at least on that topic as it might if voters instead were largely opting for one of the eight BP nominees directed by men.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 25, 2022 at 12:21 am #12048750263 ballots placed Licorice Pizza as their #1 for Best Picture, yet Licorice Pizza only has 3 mentions for Original Screenplay. What did the other two voters vote in Original Screenplay? This is such a mess.
