-Searchlight will release this upcoming murder mystery in 2022. Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, and Sian Clifford also co-star. It was written by Mark Chapell and directed by Tom George.

From the Variety article: “The film is set on the West End of 1950s London, where plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Ronan) take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid theater underground, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.”

Some character descriptions from the article:

-Sam Rockwell as Inspector Stoppard, a seasoned official who thinks he’s seen it all… until now.

-Saoirse Ronan as Constable Stalker, the indefatigably ambitious rookie on the case.

-Adrien Brody as Leo Köpernick, an unscrupulous film director with a flair for drama.

-David Oyelowo as Mervyn Cocker-Norris, celebrated writer, charged with adapting the successful stage play into a film.

-Ruth Wilson as Petula Spencer, a West End theatre impresario eager for her starring role.

That sounds like such stupid fun that’s not going anywhere awards-wise. Looking forward to it!

Sounds like Mare of Easttown but in a funny kind of way. I’m not sure whether this will be awards movie or not because Searchlight has plenty awards bait movies coming up, either its in production or in preproduction phase.

From what I’ve known so far:

Chevalier de Saint-Georges (Musician Biopic) starring Kelvin Harrison Jr and Samara Weaving
Empire of Light (Fall 2022): Dir. by Sam Mendes starring Olivia Colman
Poor Things: Dir. by Yorgos Lanthimos starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffallo and Ramy Yousseff
Perfect (Sports Biopic): Dir. by Olivia Wilde starring Thomasin McKenzie
The Menu (not sure this will be Oscar thing or not): starring Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor Joy

    FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

It has got the aesthetic of a Del Toro-Wes Anderson film.
