I read in Deadline Hollywood Daily: DiCaprio earn 30 million USD and J-Law earn 25 million USD in their Netflix movie. Some of the comments were angry that DiCaprio earn more than J-Law. Should actresses earn the same than actors?

You have unliked it!
Lawrence has The Hunger Games Trilogy , 4 oscar nominations and a win plus mother!.

DiCaprio has Titanic and 6 noms and a win.I’d say they’re pretty equal and should definitely have been paid equallyNovember 28, 2021 at 7:26 pm #1204611464This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 28, 2021 at 9:11 pm #1204611630But what IF the actor is more Successful?. Okay, are you asking if male and female actors should generally earn the same money (which, of course they should; any other answer is absurd) or should Leo and JLaw specifically earn the same amount for the same movie?
Size of role, acclaim, box office power, name recognition, etc., all play a role in performer salary, but gender should obviously not be part of that equation. Certainly there are systemic reasons why actresses may make less money than actors but I think the goal is to control for those as much as possible.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 28, 2021 at 9:54 pm #1204611726It’s very important to tackle the systemic inequality between men and women in the industry.
But when it comes to Leo and Jen I don’t get that people think that they’re equal career wise.
Of course Jlaw is the most successful actress of the last decade, and she is probably the youngest to achieve all of that.
But the simple fact that Leo already had that type of success some decades ago and still has might explain their pay gap.
In any other industry- at least where I live- someone who’s been at the top of their job for so long will be paid more than a successful but younger and less experienced colleague.Plus we can’t say that Jlaw is at the same level than Leo.
At that point every movie he does becomes a draw. And I don’t think there’s another actor capable of that at the moment. He’s the biggest movie star today .Whereas for J law ,Passengers (that was hyped as the next Titanic) flopped badly, the last X men movies were terrible, Red Sparrow too, and Mother! , although it garnered her awards recognition wasn’t a success, either with the critics or the Box Office.
Not to mention that Leo is more famous and respected worldwilde. I mean everybody knows Leo. Whereas I don’t think that in Europe ,for example Jlaw is that famous or respected especially among older generations. If anything I think that that she got a very good deal, and will be quite happy if the movie becomes successful since all her last movies flopped at the BO and with the critics.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 28, 2021 at 11:05 pm #1204611834I wonder why this question wasn’t this pressing when she was paid more than Chris Pratt for Passengers.
It’s always fascinates me when someone makes more noise when they are ‘disadvantaged’ and NO noise when they are having the ‘advantage’.
I’ll wait for the day an actor who has received more money than their co star makes a case for equal pay, tosses back the difference, so they can match said costar.
We all want te be treated the same, until we don’t, cos at time we want to be treated as individuals. Equality in every aspect of life will always sound like the objective to strive for, I’m no genius so I’m all for it.
I guess my final word is that there should always be an open door for discussion on both sides,

Lawrence is coming from Red Sparrow, Mother!, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
DiCaprio is coming from OUATIH, The Revenant, and TWoWS.
They are nowhere near equal.

But in other situations, what I have seen—and I’m sure other women in the workforce have seen as well—is that it’s extremely uncomfortable to inquire about equal pay. And if you do question something that appears unequal, you’re told it’s not gender disparity but they can’t tell you what exactly it is.”

Because Jennifer Lawrence was clearly a much bigger star than Chris Pratt was at the time AND because it’s historically been women who have been underpaid compared to men even when all factors are the same (size of role, fame level, talent, etc.).
I guess my final word is that there should always be an open door for discussion on both sides,
What is the other side? That women should be paid less than men?
ReplyCopy URLNovember 29, 2021 at 9:03 am #1204612471Gee! The one side is the one receiving payment(the talent/labour, etc) , the other is the one doing the paying (studio/employer).
