At Emmy awards we have different categories for Best Show,Best Director,Best Actor,Actress,Supporting Actor,Supporting Actress.

Now these are awards are given in 2 separate categories Comedy and Drama as you all very well know.

Great comedic movies, direction and performances are often overlooked at Oscars in favour of Drama movies.|

The categories should be as following.

    Best Motion Picture-Drama(5)
    Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musial(5)
    Best Director-Drama
    Best Director-Comedy or Musical
    Best Actor-Drama
    Best Actor-Comedy or Musical
    Best Actress-Drama
    Best Actress-Comedy or Musical
    Best Supporting Actor-Drama
    Best Supporting Actress-Comedy or Musical

*Best Adapted Screenplay and Original Screenplay categories are fine as it a lots chances to 10 screenplays like it should be.

It would be unfair to the previous winners and losers.

No. Globes do it to pander to the studios. And the Emmys and Tonys do it for necessity because it’s fair. Live-action narrative film regardless of genre must live and die against each other.

Definitely not. Yes, there have been great comedy movies that’ve been snubbed, but this would just result in unworthy performances and movies getting easy nominations and wins. Just take a look at some of the Globes’ recent nominees. Do we really want Mamma Mia to be a Best Picture nominee? Or for Jennifer Lawrence to have won an Oscar for Joy? Her name check nomination for a mop movie nobody gave two shits about was bad enough, but the idea of her winning is proof that splitting comedy and drama is a bad idea. Comedy is simply too unreliable to make such a huge change. Some years it includes fantastic contenders, while some years it gives us practically nothing.

Fuck no. The Emmys have shown that is a bad idea. There are dramas that scam nominations by calling themselves comedy, the same show category flipping later on, and that isn’t what we want.

Also, we have the Golden Globes for this.

Now,you people say it’s right to avoid un-worthy nominations and wins but don’t you think in a fair system and with fair nominees,it would be stellar.

I am sure there are more than 5 comedy movies, pictures and performances that are more than stellar and are snubbed in favor of Drama movies.

Drama and Comedy are 2 very very different genres and to compare them is a tragedy to be honest.

I admit it’s an interesting prospect, but I think that it’s for the best that they don’t. Otherwise, the Golden Globes isn’t really that special anymore.

Speaking of the Globes, I have always wanted them to have Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress separate into Comedy and Drama categories.

May the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows.

This is going to be good. I just feel a deep inconsistency seeing supporting categories not being separated while the leading categories are.

Agree. And also making the supporting races more competitive. This decade alone, most supporting winners at Globes also repeated at the Oscar (if they had enough industry support or recognition), no matter whether they had been the frontrunners before the Globes or not.

Hell to the NO. It’ll make the award less prestigious. Just like we have category frauds with acting, we’re going to have genre frauds in best picture which is now a serious issue with the Globes.

However, I’d like the Academy to stick to ten best picture nominees. There’s no need having 8 or 9 nominees when we have hundreds of worthy films that could fill the last spot(s)

No, not only would that make the show even longer, but that would lead to more category fraud – plus I feel like there would be movies that ren’t deserving thrown in there so that they could fill the quota.

Basically this. The only situation I could see them splitting the genre is if theres no more gender split.

So it would: Comedy Lead, Drama Lead, Comedy Supporting, Drama Supporting.
Genderless and could analyse these different type of performances

That probably would be ruined in a weak year and simply steal Oscar’s prestige so forget my idea lol
