Reportedly, The Academy is considering taking back Will Smith’s Oscar after he slapped Chris Rock on state at the ceremony. Do y’all think he should have his Oscar taken away?

No. People much worse than Will Smith, the likes of Woody Allen and Harvey Weinstein still have their oscars so this would be a complete overreaction and I don’t think oscars want to open this can of worms. He should be asked to put out a public apology to Chris Rock and the academy for his behaviour.

    No

But Academy should take an action. There has to be consequences to his actions. If not, worse things might happen in future and Oscars will have to brush it again and again with this as precedent.

Add Polanski to that list as well, and those are just the high-profile ones that we know about. There’s probably some sound crew member or production designer somewhere who has a statue and a shady past.

I knew a guy who got drunk threw a drink at the bar manager at an awards ceremony in my community and he got banned from the theatre. It seems they finally eased up on the ban, but it has kept him from ever coming back.

That’s throwing a drink at a bar manager. Will Smith walked onto a stage during a ceremony and committed and act of assault. I agree that taking the trophy away would open up an unneeded can of worms and series of controversies, but they should definitely never invite him back.

No, but the Academy should take action in other ways.

Are you serious? If anything they can revoke his membership. Brad Pitt just won a few years ago even after he hit his child.

    The only right answer: NO.

Possibly barring him from future events would be fairer than revoking something he earned before the incident.

He has that new movie Emancipation coming out sometime this year. Let’s see how well the industry takes to it and if he can garner another nomination, or possibly be ignored due to the incident. The industry probably won’t feel the need to nominate him again since they already gave him a win anyway.

No. Revoke his membership and/or ban him from future Oscar telecasts. Taking back Oscars sets terrible precedents.

The guy is a mess, talk about self-sabotaging one of the best nights of your life. That speech was torture.  But shittier people still keep their Oscars. He’ll keep his.

My ex just told me that the police approached Chris asking him if he wanted to press charges. Chris sai “nah. Just because be played Muhamid Ali in film doesn’t mean he has much of right cross”.
