Chris is not a star. Will is a huge star. That Producer is siding with Will: “Chris got what he deserves”
Chris Rock is definitely a star. Chris Rock is probably one of the most popular comedians ever, and there’s a reason he keeps getting invited back to the Oscars in some capacity.
Anyway, Will’s last nomination was in 2007, so I’m pretty his next Oscar bait movie (likely Emancipation) won’t hit with voters, even if it’s his best performance. We know how these things work.

The mistakes I make don’t spark global debates that include some people trying to defend and excuse violence.
His fans are so blinded by their love of him that they are defending a public act of violence. It’s horrifying and worrisome. But all because he’s a “good guy” who is just flawed. Welp, like every other human being — sans Donald Trump and the GOP — he’s not above the law.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2022 at 6:36 am #1204887686Race does partially have something to do with this. Majority of people tearing him apart are whites. That’s something you don’t seem to understand.
Any evidence for this claim? Because I’ve seen outrage and defence from people regardless of skin colour. Again, not sure why race is being brought in to distract from a criminal behaviour…
But as you’ve admitted you’ll defend him “NO MATTER WHAT” so I’m wasting my time with someone who can’t be objective…

Absolutely nothing. He’ll be fine.
He apologized. In a few days time Rock will accept the apology. They’ll move on.
Anyone who was truly a Will Smith fan before the incident won’t stop being a fan afterwards. What he did wasn’t unforgivable and the media is actually shaping things slightly in his favor. He’ll do press and interviews when Emancipation comes out and readdress his apology. And if the film is good he’ll be “redeemed”.
One thing I bet for sure is the disrespect towards he and Jada will be toned down IMMENSELY going forward.

That’s what its SUPPOSED to be about, but its not. 1 woman of color has won in Best Actress in almost 100 years. For that simple fact I don’t hold the Oscars in the same regard as I once did. So you can miss me with them being these representatives. What they generally represent is white privilege and the honoring of stories about white people.
I said what I said regarding Will. Please don’t act like this incident will spark riots and cast a shadow over the entire world for here to eternity.

But you still don’t understand so let’s END IT. We’ll leave it at that.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2022 at 7:30 am #1204887744Isn’t funny that the hero of Wild Wild West (Smith) and the villain (Branagh) both won Oscars at the same night? Coincidental, but hilarious. And the reverse happened to them?

They are seen as representatives whether they live up to that standard or not. Just as the Academy does damage to perspectives on Black women by refusing to reward them, so do Smith’s actions do damage by presenting violence as an option for people saying something you don’t agree with.

Such a bad take on everything. Comedians actually just got fuel for years… Smith just did the most stupid thing a person can do. But whatever, it seems you stans would eat his shit “no matter what”. Good luck defending this creep. Hitting the Ignore with some enablers around here.

It wasn’t something he simply didn’t agree with though. You are trying to make it look as if he was reacting to an opinion when it’s not the case. Chris Rock humiliating his wife because of a medical condition on national television is an act of violence as well, a type of violence that’s more orthodox with the white people who were in there and the white people deprecating Smith’s reaction. It’s very telling how some of you are deliberately ignoring every layer of the conversation.
To answer the OP: no, nobody should take his Oscar away. He should be the one to give it back instead, voluntarily, because the Oscars clearly have no respect for black artists, not even their own guests.
