Yes. Stop rewarding violence with a ****ing standing ovation!
ReplyCopy URLMarch 27, 2022 at 11:49 pm #1204884701No. The Oscar is a statue he got for giving an admired performance after a well-liked career.
It has nothing to do with THE SLAP (trademark pending), for which Rock would be well within his rights to press charges. He does not appear to be doing so, so that is that.
There is of course, the matter of public perception. An outburst like this (no matter how provoked), done in such a public way, will make a lot of people feel differently about him and will therefore have a chance at affecting his career. I say whenever I can, there is no such thing as “cancel culture,” it’s just a badly-named new term for an old problem: “bad publicity.” The studios used to have whole teams of people to cover up anything from their stars that could affect their image to the public. This level of self-immolation even they wouldn’t be able to hide.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 27, 2022 at 11:50 pm #1204884705No, what’s done is done. Regardless of what he did, they were the ones who decided to award him in the first place.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:00 am #1204884732Withdrawing his Oscar would be disrespectful to the Academy membership and to the integrity of the vote, just as it would be to retroactively “revoke” awards from past winners whose actions we abhor.
All the same, I’m not sure Will Smith should’ve been allowed to remain at the ceremony, even to give his speech. Anyone who wasn’t an acting frontrunner or A-list celebrity would’ve been instantly removed from the premises for an action like that, yet everyone present treated him like a young kid who got a little overexcited.

Agree. It’s like some weren’t even surprised. Yuck
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:02 am #1204884739Funny that you haven’t made a thread about Polanski the child rapist getting his Oscar revoked, but Smith a POC because he did a stupid thing should get a worse punishment than a child molestor.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:02 am #1204884741No, of course not. But he probably won’t be presenting next year.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:10 am #1204884763Will Smith assaulted another person during the most important event of the Academy. In the time of cancel culture people has lost job, their career just for expressing an opinion that a few may consider offensive. Taken away frivolous awards is too little for someone who committed an unlawful act in the middle of the Oscar ceremony. The least that should happen is expel him from the Academy, these kinds of acts should not be condone.
ReplyCopy URLThe Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.

Polanski didn’t get an Oscar tonight.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:14 am #1204884774Reportedly, The Academy is considering taking back Will Smith’s Oscar after he slapped Chris Rock on state at the ceremony. Do y’all think he should have his Oscar taken away?
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:15 am #1204884777What for? He is a deserving actor, voted the best by them, so no. What they should have done is having someone escorting him outside and address the situation because post that moment the general vibe was off, everyone was feeling weird. I don’t think he’s a bad person, but as much as you are provoked you don’t use violence, you use words. I hope they can work it out privately.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:16 am #1204884784No, but at the very least, I believe he should not be invited to present the Best Actress award at next year’s ceremony.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 28, 2022 at 12:18 am #1204884792No the Oscar shouldn’t be taken away from him. As everyone said, he shouldn’t be invited to present Best Actress next year.

Doesn’t matter. Why not include in your post that Polanski should also get his Oscar revoked, in fact why haven’t you made a thread of child rapists and sexual harassers needing to get their Oscars revoked.
Triggered by a POC doing a stupid slap on TV, but I bet you’ve never been this fumed by Rapists getting Oscars.

Why you keep repeating this? He was violent, this has nothing to do with him being black, period.
