I think a white woman would have bounced back faster than a black man.
I don’t know. Maybe IF is a huge star: Sandra Bullock. Sandra Bullock was married to a Nazi and Hollywood didn’t care

Yes indeed!!

That’s probably because she would never have given such a fake, emotionally manipulative, egotistical acceptance speech less than an hour later, nor gone dancing arrogantly to her own music at a crowded party in front of cameras and sycophants, sandwiched between the crocodile tears and the publicist’s apology.
This is entirely a male scenario. You can racialise that if you want.

We are talking about Hollywood stars so…yeah, all that applies to the women that are part of it as well. And just like you are giving and would give gender perspective to this hypothetical case, I don’t see what’s the issue with others including race in the discussion, you are starting to act weird.

The most unusual attempt so far to racialize it seems to have come from Tiffany Cross, who’s said that said the incident was “about how Black people relate to each other.”
MSNBC Guest Claims Will Smith’s Slap Is ‘Hard to Explain to a White Person’
Then there’s actress Yvette Nicole Brown, who’s said, “On Twitter, a lot of us were like, ‘y’all sit this out for your protection,’ because when we need to have a conversation, we’re gonna have it.’”
She continued. “If you put your nose in something Black people need to discuss amongst ourselves, it happens. I am from East Cleveland, I would like to say that I’ve seen harder slaps at family Spades tournaments than what happened on that stage.”
Tiffany added: “I think it is utterly ridiculous to center this in the opinions of white folks. This is just about what happened there. The jumping-off point should not be, ‘Oh, but what might the white people think about it?’”
So there you have it: according to Tiffany Cross and Yvette Nicole Brown: White people aren’t allowed to have an opinion on the incident.
But Tiffany’s most peculiar comment came when she said:
“There’s a level of disrespect that every person can handle. Some people use their words, some people use their hands. It is what it is. In the black community we understand that.”
So, there’s a black person actually claiming that the black community are more understanding of the need for some people to resort to physical violence when their disrespect level threshold has been breached.
Strange.
ReplyCopy URLApril 5, 2022 at 11:19 am #1204905081Most of this thread is people that didn’t want Will Smith to win the Oscar to begin with, hiding behind this as an excuse to take his Oscar away lol

Surely this take is completely reductive? Violence is violence and unnecessary full stop? It has no place on the Academy stage.

April 5, 2022 at 12:32 pm #1204905180I’ve tried to remain as neutral as I can on this topic but what Diane Warren had posted has a ring of truth to it.
That’s a lie. Women get away with assault easily. Feminists would blame it on Comedian……they’ll say she was body/slut shamed. Men get hit by women almost everyday and still pay for the women’s therapy.

April 5, 2022 at 2:13 pm #1204905305I have experienced alopecia very directly – I am a woman who has had chemotherapy. I’m far better placed than most to weigh in actually, as I went through the anguish, I fully understand the entire theory of hair. I had my reckoning. But it’s still not deserving of the ableism tag.
Obesity comes with multiple disease risks, it can limit mobility and can lead to death. Alopecia has no adverse health risks; this comparison is apples and oranges.
Alopecia is only devastating if you choose to react that way.
Obesity still isn’t considered a disability. Thank you for sharing your story and your feelings about, but its unfair to invalidate Jada’s feelings. She is allowed to feel the way she does about her own appearance.

Yes.
Some of the Will Smith apologists are willing to denigrate the black community in general, in order to try to defend Will.
ReplyCopy URLApril 5, 2022 at 3:30 pm #1204905402I’m going to very blunt….
For the people that said the Oscars was not the place for this……Had this happened at the BET Awards or the Image Awards I don’t think MANY people on here would care as much. The fact of the matter is the Oscars is historically a group of mostly white voters honoring mostly white creatives and artists. So in essence Will doing that in front of a room full of white people is what really did him in.
And I know the rebuttal is going to be well everyone watches the Oscars, but its still mainly a white institution….and if violence is wrong at the Oscars it should be wrong on ANY stage.

You’re right; it doesn’t belong on any stage. I have to say I wouldn’t care what stage it was on, but I completely get your point.

Someone’s girlfriend? You mean his wife and the mother of two of his children?

He didn’t ruin his career. According to Forbes: Will Smith has a 300 million USD fortune and counting</p>
