I wonder if WALL-E will make the top 100…
it got 8 critic votes in 2012.

I’m also hoping for more representation from Godard’s filmic ruminations, particularly his late career work such as Film Socialisme, Goodbye to Language, and my favorite, Notre Musique.
I would have chosen different picks for Kiarostami, Antonioni, Mizoguchi, Bergman, and Altman. Would like to see a Barry Lyndon repeat, though!

I personally think Vertigo will be #1 again.

I think Vertigo will move down a bit on the list. In this climate, there’s going to be enough voters who are reluctant to give a Hitchcock film that distinction. I’d be surprised if it was #1 again.
I’m with everyone thinking it will be 2001: A Space Odyssey (although, it’s not like Kubrick was saintly towards his casts and crews either)

I don’t know why people are constantly bringing up Parasite. It might be on the top 100, sure, but it’s not going to be in the top 10.
MAYBE it will be the highest placed movie released since 2012, though.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 30, 2022 at 6:30 pm #1205173357I think the movie that will jump the most from 2012 is Tree of Life (2011). Maybe it cracks the top 25.
The movie from mid-2012 or later that will be highest will be Parasite (2019), I think.

Hmm… I’m guessing The Nightmare Before Christmas, Spirited Away, and Parasite?

Spirited Away is a good guess.
My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and WALL-E got a lot of critics votes in 2012.

All of these new people are Millenials. I still think 2001(Stanley Kubrick) will be their new Number One Greatest Of All Time

Yeah this is the first poll since 1962 where Roger Ebert isn’t part of it.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 1, 2022 at 7:13 am #1205173736Important Sight and Sound poll reminder: only the aggregated lists come out today, not the individual ballots – this is only discourse round 1, the naming and shaming of filmmakers and critics for their terrible choices comes much later

Damn… so are we only going to see 100 movies on a list?
Not the full list?
