With Jonah Hill hosting SNL tonight, do you think it improves his chances at an Oscar win? I know that people think that Leto has the category sewn up, but looking at last year, where 3 of the acting winners (Hathaway, Lawrence and Waltz) hosted SNL leading up to the ceremony, it could have an effect on the race. Thoughts?

In my opinion it has almost zero influence if not no influence at all. Those guys hosted SNL in a time they were perceived as frontrunners in their respective categories (Lawrence, Waltz) or absolute locks (Hathaway). Besides they were the it-Oscar nominees last year.

Does anyone even watch SNL anymore?

No because the older voters will be in bed and the younger voters might rather be doing anything else.

Lawrence’s SNL was quite weak, so I don’t know how it helped her…

Waltz’ SNL I remember happened after voting had ended, so it had no influence on his win.

And remember, Waltz wasn’t really at that point the perceived frontrunner.

I feel like it’s more the reverse. SNL likes to get hosts who are getting a lot of media attention at the time, which is often the frontrunners in the race. So being a frontrunner could get you a job hosting SNL, but hosting SNL wont make you a frontrunner
