I don’t know how websites like Goldderby even stay in business anymore.
Just weeks ago we were hyping about what a wide open unpredictable season this was. LOL.
Well Oscar voting doesn’t even begin for 2 weeks and the big 6 categories are already locked up.
Let’s face it the industry is a bore. Voters just follow the awards show that precedes it and rubber stamps. Oscar campaigners don’t go for the throat and really go for the take down of some of these questionable frontrunners this year.
"Here's a wonderfully b*tchy post from Montana82...." - Tom O'Neill Emmy Prediction Slugfest August 1st, 2019
Before the Golden Globes, here I was thinking that each Best Actress contender would win one precursor each.
BAFTA could throw a wrench in at least one of the categories but I don’t know if straying from the pack for one award will make that much of a dent in the overall race.
It is a shame, but it’s good to remember that every year is different. One year things play out the way you think they’re going to and another unexpected things happen and it’s impossible to predict. Maybe next year will provide more nail-biters.
Oscar voting seemed really late this year and some of these films weren’t even released for the Globes and SAGS. Remember when Brokeback won pretty much everything before the Oscars. I thought LaLa Land was a shoo in.
