    Suicide is Painless from MASH (1970) which was written by Altman’s son;

    Prisoner from Eyes of Laura Mars (1978);

    Nothing Has Been Proven from Scandal (1989) written by the Pet Shop Boys and sung by Dusty Springfield.

    I think she wrote “live to tell” for a Sean Penn film if this is true I think she was robbed for a win

    I’m not entirely sure Live To Tell was specifically written for At Close Range though, same way how Into The Groove was not written for Desperately Seeking Susan.

    I think This Used To Be My Playground would have been her moment in terms of a songwriter’s nomination, it was quite a baity song and I’m still surprised they went with two songs from The Bodyguard, including Run To You which is barely a tune and is just there to show off Whitney’s vocal abilities…

    “No Place Like Home (Glasgow)” from Wild Rose was ROBBED last year by Toy Story 4. And I believe that “Show Yourself” was so much better than Into the Unknown, but I know why they nominated the latter.

    I agree. Madonna should have been nominated for all of those songs and won for at least one of them. The Academy just hates her.

    I think she should have won for “Live to tell”. But some people started to took her seriously in the 90s. She won her first Grammy around that time.

    Just thought of another one that I can’t believe I never thought of before: “Where Are You, Christmas?” from How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

    I was actually just having a conversation about that with Kevin Klawitter on Twitter yesterday.

    It seems that the music branch of the academy tends to be reluctant to nominating Christmas movies for Best Original Song. Though there are exceptions to the rule like ‘Somewhere in My Memory’ from Home Alone and ‘Believe’ from The Polar Express. I guess it’s also kind of similar to how Klaus didn’t win Best Animated Feature this past year, because it was a Christmas movie, so that made the appeal of it pretty limiting.

    Was Darlene Love’s “All Alone On Christmas” eligible / written for Home Alone 2?

    After the first film it a song nomination (yes it was John Williams but still) I imagine the 2nd would’ve had some consideration?

    Babyface should have a few nominations for all the soundtrack cuts he’s written.

    Even now, I still fail to realize how Blondie’s “Call Me” from American Gigolo somehow didn’t get an Oscar nomination. It was the biggest hit of the year, instantly beloved by critics and fans alike, and remains a classic to this day. How the Academy screwed that one up is dumbfounding.
