I loved this movie. From the sound design that makes the viewer feel the same desperation as the protagonist, to the excellent performances of Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke (even with limited screentime, she does a great job) and Paul Raci (that last scene of him, my God…). I hope for many nominations for this film, although I imagine it is unlikely.

ReplyCopy URLThe Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.
December 30, 2020 at 10:32 am #1203953231Glad to see a topic for this. Its my number two film of the year. I was skeptical about watching this. I remember the reviews from Toronto last year which all gave the impression of a great performance in a so so film. Therefore I was expecting a slow not that engaging indie. Boy was I wrong. Its quiet (no pun intended) and leisurely but I found it engrossing every step of the way. Beautifully written and acted. All three actors deserve nominations but we’ll be lucky if Ricci gets nominated alongside Riz. And the ending is one of the best of the year.

👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)January 6, 2021 at 5:00 am #1203965517It was the best movie of 2020 for mine. I still haven’t seen Nomadland and other stuff though. Raci and Riz, just wow! Such chemistry in their scenes, I was feeling it so hard! I cried so hard in their last scene together! Raci will go close for the Oscar and Riz will probably be runner up to Chad. Loved this movie!!

And if there’s any justice in this world Paul Raci would be nominated for Best Supporting Actor! HE HAS TO BE NOMINATED!!!!!!!

After being wrongfully snubbed for Nightcrawler, he’s finally getting redemption. ❤️

Riz was truly fantastic and I would not be surprised if he took home a few TV prizes including the Oscar.
Paul Raci was perfect. He definitely deserves the nomination if he gets in. I enjoyed Olivia as well.
This is definitely my #1 contender for Sound Achievement, Actor, and Supporting Actor.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2021 at 8:27 pm #1204023993The sound mix in this film is ridiculously overrated. Making things quieter to show hearing loss is not special. It’s standard and completely expected. Far more could have been done with the textures of the sound to express the emotional state of the character and the ambiances.

Did you watch the last third of the movie or do you just relish in the opportunity to be contrarian?

Why are British audiences being discriminated against considering the lead actor is British?
