I know this is a film forum but does anyone has some predictions for the new television categories for this year ceremony. Back in September it was announced the addition of five new categories: Best New Scripted Series, Best New Non-Scripted or Documentary Series, Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, and Best Ensemble Cast but I don’t know who could compete.

How? The budget was between 10-20 million.

I imagine it’s like The Favourite in the sense that it is too foreign to compete in any category outside of International.

Isabelle Huppert didn’t win with a foreign film? They changed the rules?

Elle had an American attached to the movie. Not sure in what way. Foreign Language movies can compete in the above the line categories as long as they have Americans involved in it. Like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The writer of Elle is american. They have some rules which indicate what’s foreign and what’s not, it’s on their website. If the movie has an american writer or director they consider it to be american as well.

Well, I don’t know. I was told so. Maybe the budget is more than what it shows to be on the Internet. I guess we are gonna wait and see.

Per Gregory Ellwood from The Playlist, Ma Rainey is eligible so its budget must be under 22M.

That Robert Altman Award is going to be very competitive.
