People still take PaulHanlinJr seriously around here?

And who the F are you to talk?   Don’t even know you.  Sounds like a newbie just trying to get his 15 minutes.

If TFA is going to make it into Picture, it’s on the right track. 95% RT 81 MC, $57mil opening night on its way to the biggest weekend ever (and potentially becoming, in the long run, the highest grosser ever). EVERYONE is talking about it and it’s all good things. Come Oscar voting, the hype and love will be in full Force. The phenomenon alone might be enough to push it in.

In retrospect, hiding the film for so long seems strange and pointless. Yeah, there was this sustained air of mystery, but it’s not like no one saw the film before opening night. AFI’s already got it in its top 10 and Critics Choice is considering adding it to its BP field. Hard to know whether it would have made a dent with Globes but you could have bet at least a few critics awards/top ten list mentions. If TFA can’t make it in, it’ll be because of the late showing.

But that late showing is a blitz of monumental proportions. It could make it in.

I remember your annoying presence in the Jennifer Lawrence vs. Emmanuelle Riva debacle. You should join a forum exclusively about box office statistics.

Personally I loved “Star Wars  ~ The Force Awakens”. The theatre I was at went nuts the entire time tonight. I dont want to go into it much cuz I dont want to spoil it for anyone, but again I loved it.

As for Oscars, I think it will get 6 nominations:

    Best Picture
    Score
    Production Design
    Visual Effects
    Sound Mixing
    Sound Editing

It’s got an outside shot at Costume Design and Editing too.

Ditto. My theater was really into it and was cheering and laughing all throughout. And they were also ecstatic for Rey.

YES my theatre was exactly the same!!! But the best part was wheny my audience collectively went NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I think you guys know what I am talking about lol.

Same. One of the biggest cheers came shortly after that, and I think you know what part. 😉

The biggest cheer happened in the final conflict… Again, I think anyone who has seen it knows what part, but the cheers were DEAFENING. I clapped so hard my hands hurt, I will not lie… when (SPOILERS!!) Rey pulled the lightsaber to her with the force, everyone was freaking out and clapping and yelling “YES!!!”, it was AMAZING. One of the best moments I’ve ever had in a movie theater. (END SPOILERS).

It’s definitely more than just a movie, it is totally an experience. I’m seeing it again tonight and I can’t wait.

Was anyone else’s audience dead silent at the end? Mine didn’t make a peep when the credits started rolling. They were yelling and clapping at everything, I thought people would have completely lost their shit. Maybe it was internal cause I sure was lol.

Also, BB-8 should be up for Supporting Actor/Actress. This little robot showed more emotional range than most actors working today.

Star Wars won’t just get nominated for Best Picture, it will WIN Best Picture. Seriously, whose going to check off boring movies like Spotlight and Mad Max, when Star Wars is staring at them? You want to talk about PASSION votes? Here’s your answer. It made $120 MIL just on Friday. It’s going to break every record in the book, and no one hates it. Get ready- at last, 2015 has a worthy Best Picture that will go on for decades as one of the strongest choices ever by the academy.

What if I was being serious??

^^^Amen to that. I do think it’ll get in Best Picture based on passion votes because not only did it get positive critical reception and is making all the money in the world, but it apparently has a positive reception within the industry as well. It has everything going for it. It would be something if it can win Best Picture, though. While Spotlight maybe the presumed frontrunner, I don’t see it having a rooting factor. Even Pete Hammond from Deadline said, “Yeah, it’s a great movie, but get over it!” Something like SW winning would be a  win for the ages.

My audience was very vocal throughout, and even clapped and cheered for quite a long time when it was over. I didn’t think they would, though, not because it was bad (it was fantastic) but because of the shocking events near the end and the ending itself, which was a cliffhanger and not an everyone-gets-a-medal ending.

Double-digit Oscar nominations are a must.

    Picture
    Actress (Daisy Ridley)
    Supporting Actor (Harrison Ford)
    Director
    Adapted Screenplay
    Original Score
    ALL TECH CATEGORIES.

SW can be nominated for BP but for it to win it really, like esentially every single movie, has to win either directing, screenplay or an acting award, which is highly unlikely. It will win some tech awards, and that’s it.
