My tweet is making the rounds (https://twitter.com/Filmatelist/status/687638335544676352), but thought I’d elaborate here.

With BRIDGE OF SPIES, Spielberg’s films have now amassed 128 nominations, finally putting him past William Wyler, who had 127.  This is the most ever for a director.

    A breakdown:

    LINCOLN – 12
    SCHINDLER’S LIST – 12
    THE COLOR PURPLE – 11
    SAVING PRIVATE RYAN – 11
    E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL – 9
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND – 8
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – 8
    BRIDGE OF SPIES – 6
EMPIRE OF THE SUN – 6
    WAR HORSE – 6
    HOOK – 5
    MUNICH – 5
    AMISTAD – 4
    JAWS – 4
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE – 3
    JURASSIC PARK – 3
    1941 – 3
WAR OF THE WORLDS – 3
    A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – 2
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN – 2
INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM – 2
THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN – 1
THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK – 1
    MINORITY REPORT – 1

If anyone deserves that moniker, it’s Steven Spielberg. He’s a living legend and my favourite film director. May that number continue to go up as long as he continues to grace the silver screen with more dandy films!

FYC: Ready Player One. Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Original Score, Production Design, Director and BEST PICTURE (make it happen Oscars!!)
