Hi, everyone! In the beginning of the year, it was announced that Rob Ashford is going to direct the musical version of Sunset Boulevard to the big screen with Glenn Close as Norma Desmond. Still, we’re finishing september and there’s no news about the movie. Anyone knows anything about it? When will start the shooting? Why is taking so long to Paramount to release this movie? Since the news in march, I’ve been dreaming to watch Glenn as Norma, Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe, J.K. Simmons as Max and Rachel Brosnaham as Betty (like the perfect cast), but its kind frustrating when this dream is only in my mind, LOL

They arent going to stop until every single movie ever made is remade, and re-made, and then turned into a musical.

Maybe they are still working out the production schedule, budget, casting, etc. There’s a lot of preparing to do on making a musical film. But I think this film will happen and they just need to work out some things first. Once we see some reports regarding the casting of the supporting characters, that will officially signal that the film is really on track.

Beloved derbyites, I will laugh if this film gets cancelled. Bore is really thirsty for a dildo.

Regardless, Close will have a really meaty role in Hillbilly Elegy anyway. The only thing stopping her is a liberal smear campaign against the movie after the Presidential election

I recently had the great pleasure of interviewing Alan Campbell, who earned a Tony nomination for originating the role of Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway. He is currently in rehearsals for a local production in my area. We talked quite a bit about his experiences with Sunset Boulevard such as getting involved, his friendship with Glenn Close, what he thought of the 2017 Broadway revival, the much discussed movie musical adaptation in the works, and ideas for who should play Joe Gillis.

Glenn Close needs to relegate herself back to BSA if she ever wants to have another shot at winning the Oscar.

Let’s face it. She is never going to win BA at the Oscars. The precursors are going to be reluctant to award her again for their respective Best Actress categories the next time around. The BSA race is her only shot.

That isn’t fair to Glenn. Ideally she and her team shouldn’t have to demote her nor compromise her integrity.

Wonderful! I wish I was a fly on the wall to witness it.

She’s been nominated for BSA 3x before, so it should be no problem for her.

I cannot imagine SAG awarding her a second Best Actress win. It’s so rare. She has too many hurdles in the BA race.

I’d rather see her lose in the category that Glenn feels she belongs than win in a category just to win. That s only my opinion of course.

With Cats currently flopping at the box office, could Sunset Boulevard now be dropped? I know the rights to both of those musicals are owned by different studios, but still. Though maybe Sunset could end up being produced by Netflix.

I don’t think that makes any sense. Sunset Boulevard is actually decent.

I’d be more worried about Wicked since Universal pushed Wicked back and gave Cats it’s release date due to (I assume) a lack of confidence in the project.

I remember when Universal announced the change, they noted that Wicked would be re-dated soon to accommodate production scheduling.
