If they start filming this summer as she hopes, do we think they’ll have it out by winter, or do you think they’d hold onto it until next fall? Assuming this is the movie they will push to get her the Oscar, I can’t imagine they would release it any time before September, regardless of if released in 2021 or 2022.
Depending on how long principal photography could last (as well as post production), I’d be surprised if the movie gets released in 2021. I think coming out next year would be much more likely.

ReplyCopy URLApril 13, 2021 at 8:15 pm #1204199468Even if she doesn’t win, she seems to love the work and show no signs of retiring. I don’t think the speculation will ever stop considering she’s an 8-time nominee (which is a HUGE win in itself).

ReplyCopy URLOctober 6, 2021 at 8:22 am #1204505130In a recent interview with Variety, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber gave this update on the film:
Close and Lloyd Webber have been laboring for years to bring “Sunset Boulevard” to the screen, with Chris Terrio of “Argo” contributing the most recent script polish. But the project, which is set up at Paramount, appears to have stalled out.
“I wish I could say it’s going into production tomorrow morning, but it’s not,” says Lloyd Webber. “Paramount has not wanted to go ahead with it. It’s not for want of trying. Glenn Close has been absolutely doggedly trying to get it made.”

Why can’t they get Netflix to do this?

Paramount is the worst studio to look for a project like this.
Close and Lloyd Webber should look for a streamer like Apple.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 6, 2021 at 11:09 am #1204505478Although the thing is that Paramount still owns the rights to the original 1950 Billy Wilder film. So it makes sense as to why this project would be set up there. It’s similar to why the 2007 Hairspray movie musical was produced by New Line Cinema as that company still owns the rights to the original 1988 John Waters film. Maybe Sunset Boulevard should be a co-production between Paramount and a streaming service. After all, given how In the Heights and Dear Evan Hansen both recently flopped at the box office, I think we’re probably gonna start seeing more stage-to-screen adaptations of musicals produced for streaming platforms as opposed to theaters.
