I know it’s too early, but unless Saoirse Ronan surprises, I think Colman is a lock if she goes supporting. Best actor will probably be Oldman vs Hopkins, and best actress will probably be Winslet to lose. The biggest question mark is supporting actor: if Mark Rylance makes the cut I think he’ll probably win. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t nominate any PoC again.
(hopefully I’ll read this comment in few months and I’ll be glad that I was wrong)

Nice to see your Vanessa Kirby prediction, I am rooting for that film to do well, I mean the cast is incredible: Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Sarak Snook, Ellen Burstyn, Ben Safdie, and Jimmy Fails who I’m particularly excited to see what does after The Last Black Man in San Francisco.
Also interesting to see you have Jennifer Hudson over Viola Davis when the BAFTAs nominated Viola for Widows.

The only televised pre-cursor to (deservedly) nominate her I believe, although you do wonder how much of it has to do with being in a McQueen film, whose 3/4 with acting nominations for his features and the only one that didn’t still won best First Feature.
BAFTA film are now just trying to Oscar predictors ever since they got rid of their longlists, so if Viola is competitive for the win then she’ll definitely be nominated at the very least.

5. HudsonAugust 26, 2020 at 4:51 am #1203668129Lol there is no way Winslet misses at BAFTA. They literally awarded her for Steve Jobs.
I do think we should keep an eye out for Bill Murray though. BAFTA have loved him and ScarJo since they gave them the wins for Lost in Translation.
Also Ammonite is literally closing London Film Festival. There’s no way its missing Picture here (I mean The Irishman and Three Billboards have had these slots).
There is also IMO no way Hopkins loses. I sadly don’t think Lindo is winning here.

So did Fury, Free Fire, Saving Mr. Banks and Stan & Ollie.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 26, 2020 at 5:36 pm #1203669234That’s a good point but then again the reviews for Fury and Free Fire were very mixed which I don’t expect for Ammonite.
I think at the very least its getting the exact same nominations as Saving Mr. Banks although I think considering how the industry response here has been from what I’ve seen that it will end up more like The Favourite or Three Billboards.
