Is GG now so toxic that maybe nominees don’t want to win it? Are there circumstances where we can be sure that people are winning on merit, rather than reflecting a PR strategy for a relaunch? I feel like it’s a poisoned chalice. Presuming this has already been discussed but not wading through the pages …

Best Motion Picture – Drama: The Power of the Dog

Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy: Licorice Pizza

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama: Benedict Cumberbatch

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama: Kristen Stewart

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Andrew Garfield

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Emma Stone

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Troy Kotsur

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: Ruth Negga

Best Director – Motion Picture: Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog)

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture: Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza)

    Best Animated Feature: Encanto

Best Foreign Language Film: A Hero

Best Original Score: The French Dispatch

Best Original Song: Down to Joy from Belfast, by Van Morrison

Mixing things up for a bit of chaos and intrigue. Garfield and Stone would be cute as a former power couple. And might be interesting if Drive My Car, Hans Zimmer and Billie Eilish were not automatically successful, although Van Morrison beating Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson would cause heads to explode (fwiw I liked his song the most, just hate that it’s by him).

Is there a live stream for tonight or will everything just be tweeted/Announced?

A little bit of Magic never hurt anybody.

I honestly want a couple of big shocks tonight. This season has the potential to be boring ASF, but the Globes might start making things interesting.

Please, Picture or Director. Throw us a curve-ball!

I’ll be curious to see if the Globes winners will have a positive or negative effect on the rest of the season. I could see it generating buzz/momentum like any other year, but could also see other awards groups wanting to distance themself from the HFPA’s picks. Wouldn’t be fair of course to the winners, but the industry just seems so focused on not associating in any way with them this year.

Director is the only category I hope they don’t decide to do one of their typical GG wins. Jane better win. They can do whatever they want with the other categories tho. Hopefully good choices.

So why cant we predict the Globes on Goldderby? They only have Oscar predictions and a few others up. Just curious.

    FINAL PREDICTIONS:

Best Film (Drama): The Power of the Dog
Best Film (Comedy/Musical): Don’t Look Up
Best Director: Jane Campion, “The Power of the Dog
Best Actor (Drama): Will Smith, “King Richard”
Best Actress (Drama): Nicole Kidman, “Being the Ricardos”
Best Actor (Comedy/Musical): Andrew Garfield, “Tick, Tick … Boom!”
Best Actress (Comedy/Musical): Rachel Zegler, “West Side Story”
Best Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst, “The Power of the Dog”
Best Supporting Actor: Troy Kotsur, “CODA”
Best Screenplay: Adam McKay, “Don’t Look Up”
Best Original Score: “Dune”, Hans Zimmer
Best Song: “Down to Joy,” “Belfast”
    Best Motion Picture, Animated: “Encanto”
    Best Foreign Language: “A Hero”

NOTE: I think Kristen Stewart is so amazing in Spencer, but nobody seems to be talking about her movie. Will that have an effect on her chances? Sometimes the Globes can kick off conversation for a movie, like when we’ve seen foreign performances sneak in (Drama when Portman lost that year)- but in this case, I think Kidman’s film is being more talked about and she has a comeback thing going. It still could be Gaga, Chastain or even Colman. This race is wide open.
