I’ve always wondered why Star Wars was never considered a superhero movie when talking about Oscars. If it is then Alec Guinness joins Heath Ledger as a nominee from such films.
But on the possibilities you’re saying The Dark Knight remains superior since their snub made the academy expand their field from 5 to 10 for the first time in decades. How influential should a film be to deliver such change.

Logan. Just simply an artistic masterpiece. It should have WON the Oscar for Best Picture.
The Incredibles, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and Guardians of the Galaxy deserved Best Picture noms in their respective years as well.
Oscars 2020: I stan Joaquin Phoenix, Willem Dafoe, Alan Silvestri, and Dean Deblois.
Emmys 2020: I stan Logan Lerman, Olivia Colman, and David Harbour.
Tom Hanks and Amy Adams stan in general.August 22, 2019 at 11:28 am #1203035118

4. Black Panther
5. The IncrediblesAugust 24, 2019 at 7:10 pm #1203038371
Everybody know that Black Panther doesn’t deserve to be the first superhero movie nominated for Best Picture. It doesn’t deserve any Oscars at all. Just look at it’s 7,3 score on IMDB.
The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, Wonder Woman, Logan and The Incredibles should have been nominated.September 28, 2019 at 2:53 am #1203109790

The Incredibles is probably better than every single movie nominated for Best Picture in 2004. 2004 was a weak year for the nominees. I don’t think one of those can be called a classic film.September 28, 2019 at 11:02 am #1203110429
Just look at it’s 7,3 score on IMDB.
As soon as the lead isn’t a straight white male, the IMDB score stops being relevant. That being said I don’t think I would have nominated any superhero film except for The Dark Knight.
