Every year, there seems to be one or 2 nominations that people may not be expecting, although they may be hoping. I’m thinking Javier Bardem & Jacki Weaver last year. Up, Woody Harrelson, and District 9 the year before.
What shockers are in store for us Tuesday morning?January 23, 2012 at 3:04 pm #52703
I don’t think Jacki was a surprise at all. Her movie was one of the first ones sent out and she had good buzz throughout the season.
But to the topic at hand, all I have to say is that watch out for BP (since the whole 5-10 thing) and supporting actor.January 23, 2012 at 3:10 pm #52704
Jacki was a slight surprise, just because it was a small Australian film not widely known. I’m very happy she was nominated, but I didn’t think she was a sure thing. Plus, I was just trying to come up with folks to fit haha.
I haven’t heard rumblings of as many this year. I remember there were hopes and rumblings for Bardem and for Harrelson. I’m not reading as much about Harrelson this year though.January 23, 2012 at 3:11 pm #52705
Michale Shannon could surprise for actor. I remember seeing those ads for his movie for like a month straight here.January 23, 2012 at 3:22 pm #52706
I’ve heard great and interesting things about Take shelter. I really want to see it. At this point, would a Dunst nom be a shocker? A 3rd lady from The Help?
Any surprise snubs on par with Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show snub?January 23, 2012 at 3:33 pm #52707
10 nominees for BP, and one of those being Extremely Close & Incredibly Close, which then would be its sole nominationJanuary 23, 2012 at 3:34 pm #52708
Any surprise snubs on par with Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show snub?
Jessica Chastain being left off is the only BIG snub possibility I can think of.
Other categories I am watching out for are directing (who’s going to get that fifth slot?) and song (will the disinterest that branch seems to have keep the category from having five nominees?).January 23, 2012 at 3:44 pm #52709
I think ELAIC might get Max Von Sydow in!!
Other shockers would be any of the predicted 5 actresses.
Only nominating Payne for screenplay and not best director.
I expect Melissa McCarthy to not get nominated, so if she
does, thats a shocker for me..
If vanessa redgrave’s name is mentioned for sup. actress for CORIOLANUS.
If War Horse doesnt get nominated for 3 important technicals..
Cinematography, film editing and orig. score…I think it will get all 3.
If Berenice Bejo is elevated to best actress!!
If Viola Davis is put in supporting where she belongs.January 23, 2012 at 3:47 pm #52710
Jessica Chastain was the one I was thinking of too. I wonder if Tree of Life has enough support to cause enough of a vote split.
EL&IC as a Best Picture nominee, and having it be it’s only nom would be a shock.
The Artist wave bringing in John Goodman or previous nominee James Cromwell would be big.
I wonder if Broadbent could ride Streep’s momentum into a nod. I’m expecting a makeup nod, but 3 nods could be big for TIL.January 23, 2012 at 3:49 pm #52711
They announce they made a mistake last year and The Social Network actually won Best Picture. 😉January 23, 2012 at 3:51 pm #52712
I would love if Pariah got some love either for Adepero Oduye for Best Actress, Kim Wayans for Supporting Actress or Dee Rees for Adapted Screenplay.January 23, 2012 at 3:52 pm #52713
I have Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in the 10th slot for Best Picture. That would be a surprise.January 23, 2012 at 4:00 pm #52714
24Emmy, I agree with you on both posts haha. An Alan Rickman nom would be nice as well. I think the HP nom could, and should, happen. But unlike LOTR, which as some on here have said before, was really 3 parts to one movie, the HP movies aren’t. But I would love to hear that nominated.January 23, 2012 at 4:03 pm #52715
Bridesmaids making it to BP
