It may be an Oscar contender, it may be a critical darling, but I’m currently tbh quite discouraged to even try it if all 6 friends of mine that have already seen it have told me it’s an utter chore, and with 2 of them even walking away at the theater lol.

Really, six? Measured against those who think positively of Tar, I’d be encouraged to see it if I hadn’t.

I guess Field doesn’t know that Lydia is already in the estate-approved Maestro…
Jennifer Lawrence will play a young Lydia Tár in ‘MAESTRO’, Bradley Cooper’s film about Leonard Bernstein.
This will be the pair’s fifth film together.

Tell me how this movie might go home empty handed….

The Sound design in the film is flawless.
I don’t know if I would nominate the movie for Best Sound. If it were in the old categories, I think Tár would even deserve to win Sound Editing but I wouldn’t nominate it for Sound Mixing. The minimalism in the mix and the attempt to work with Lydia’s misophonia creates a strange contrast. You hear everything blended together in a very subtle way, even the dialogue is very low compared to other films because they tried to use the real reverberation of the environment, but there is an uncomfortable difference for the sound effects, from her assistant conductor’s pen, from the curtains being drawn, shoes clicking, things like that. I understand it’s on purpose, but when you couple that with the almost invisible score, the mix feels lost.

But the Sound Editing does some amazing things. The way they miked that whole masterclass scene is insane, the ambience of the sound makes you feel like you’re there with them. Why are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
