She is going to rule the award season.
With reviews this good and a Volpi Cup, she has a strong position now.

The direction, Cate’s performance , the sound design , the cinematography, just the overall aesthetic! I need this now.

This is the second time someone refers to Lydia as Cate’s Daniel Plainview. This kind of raves is what excites me the most about this movie… I am careful when it comes to these reviews, but it is a complete joy reading them.

Tar just might be the most fascinating character study I’ve ever seen? I’d have to really go back, but it’s indeed the best character study I’ve seen in the last decade or so. For as confusing as the original trailer led the film to be, I’m actually quite surprised how straight forward this film was. The plot is one that is pretty basic, but a slow burner that keeps pushing the audience further and further down the rabbit hole that is Lydia Tar. You don’t mind that the plot is simple, you are there to watch Cate unravel in the most wickedly delicious way possible and are there to revel in her presence. Blanchett Stans, she doesn’t disappoint here, but you already knew she wouldn’t. She’s nearly in every frame of a 2.5 plus film. She is this film. It’s the performance of her career and the best I’ve ever seen from her. She’s intoxicating and nothing short of a masterful performance. I’ve regarded Cate’s performance in Blue Jasmine as arguably the greatest performance from a lead actress in the past 20 years, until today. I never really bought into the hype that this was going to be her GOAT. Kept saying there’s no way in hell, she simply can’t top what she did in Blue Jasmine. Well, not only does she in fact do that, this time around she’s on full display for nearly 3 hours giving it her all and has one unbelievable monologue in the beginning, towards the middle, and my goodness, that 3rd act switches into full chaos with Lydia. It’s more than a treat to watch her character spiral out of control. The audience is so patient for the first 2 hours as you’re trying to understand where this is going, what is Lydia going to do after 2 key events unfold rocking her entirely seemingly perfect world, and how is this going to end with her? Todd Field has stated that he wouldn’t have made this film if Cate said no, and I couldn’t agree more. I don’t think anyone could have done what she did here. When you talk about the perfect casting for the perfect performance, you no need to look anywhere else. I loved this until the last 10 minutes. I didn’t like the ending, but nonetheless I still really like this film and enjoyed being able to watch one of our greats doing her best work to date with so many of her Stans. I had a guy sobbing after her lecture in the opening, and then didn’t stop the whole way through. This one is for her fans. You’re going to be in awe and you’re going to never forget where you were the first time you watch her performance. I know I never will.

Can Todd field win director or screenplay ?

OMG the Oscar Expert Twins said the opening scene is 25 minutes of just Cate Blanchett talking!? OOF. They seem divided. One liked it, the other said it left him cold. It’s giving Power Of The Dog all over again. #divisive #polarizing

Guess we have to divide the globe based on which half each twin likes more, then.

TÁR is damn near a masterpiece. It starts off slow. But by the conclusion…wow. This is probably the best *SPOILER ALERT* cancel culture film ever. I’d describe this as if Notes on a Scandal & Blue Jasmine had a baby delivered by Todd Field.

Speaking of, he BETTER get a Best Director nomination. Cate, well, her best performance to date. The titular character is so complicated & despicable yet so fascinating. The season is still early but…she’s probably winning Oscar #3. An incredible movie.
