I have loved August Diehl since I saw him in Inglorious Basterds, I am looking forward to this movie and I hope this movie becomes a breakthrough that he needs to get more quality roles in Hollywood .April 3, 2019 at 11:24 pm #1202839276
I really, really, really hope this movie is a return to form after disappointing attemps such as Song to Song and Voyage of Time. But it will take many bad films before I give up on Malick.April 18, 2019 at 9:19 am #1202857939
It’s official: A Hidden Life has been announced as part of the main competition lineup at Cannes!! https://variety.com/2019/film/festivals/cannes-announces-2019-lineup-terrence-malick-pedro-almodovar-1203192293/April 18, 2019 at 11:48 pm #1202858576
I loved Badlands (my favourite film of all time) & Days of Heaven (seen them both so many times I’ve lost count) but since his comeback I have found Malick insufferable (less so with The New World). He should have stopped at two films and become the Garbo of film directors. Song to Song & Knight of Cups killed his credibility as a major director. Maybe his latest film will restore that to some degree with me.
And the only reason he is able to get the actors that he does is because of Badlands and Days of Heaven which were made with unknowns (at the time). Actors seem desperate to work with him but I really don’t see any point if the material isn’t there to begin with. His last two efforts (StS & KoC) is star f…… as its most obvious.May 14, 2019 at 7:44 pm #1202894339
It appears the film’s runtime will be 173 minutes. Here are some more still images, including one featuring the late Bruno Ganz. It looks like at least two of these images deal with Franz Jagerstatter’s arrest, as one image shows him appearing to be handcuffed, and the other shows him looking out the window of what I assume must be his prison cell. https://thefilmstage.com/news/new-images-from-terrence-malicks-cannes-premiere-a-hidden-life/
Also, here’s a 15-second clip that’s been released of Jagerstatter and his wife embracing. https://thefilmstage.com/news/watch-first-clip-from-terrence-malicks-a-hidden-life-captures-a-lovers-embrace/May 19, 2019 at 8:52 pm #1202900417
Early reactions are very positive, with many saying it’s Malick’s best film since The Tree Of Life. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/05/a-hidden-life-first-reactions-terrence-malick-cannes-1202142867/May 21, 2019 at 11:38 am #1202903371
I wonder when it will come out in theatersMay 21, 2019 at 2:41 pm #1202903664
No official release date yet, but it’s already picked up a distributor, Fox Searchlight, which has me guessing a late summer or early fall release date, so they can try doing an awards push with the movie. https://variety.com/2019/film/global/terrence-malick-fox-searchlight-a-hidden-life-cannes-1203220828/May 22, 2019 at 5:41 am #1202904234

The title is already boring.
Lena Headey hasn't got an Emmy for Game of Thrones????? Emmys you need to win her right now!!May 22, 2019 at 4:33 pm #1202905021
I guess they thought the original title Radegund would be too confusing and hard to pronounce for English-speaking audiences. To me, it kind of makes sense, because I never knew who Franz Jagerstatter was until I heard of this movie. And I suspect most people going into this movie won’t know about him either.
