Thank you! I’ve actually only been covering the shorts in depth since last year. I managed to predict 3/3 at the 92nd Oscars based purely on pundits and without seeing any of the films, which felt a bit strange, so since then I’ve wanted to see if actually watching as many as I can helps at all (TBD so far – only got 2/3 last year, missing Doc which in my opinion that was a pretty tight three-way race, I wish I’d stuck with my gut/personal preference and picked Colette). Hopefully sharing my thoughts on them helps other users’ predictions too.

I have gotten 3/3 two out of the last three years (last year being the exception) thanks to people like you! I never watch the shorts, but reading others opinions has helped me a lot, and some users are great at analyzing them and their possibilities, I’ll keep cheking this thread to read more 🖤

Some good news for those of us who have been waiting for “Please Hold” to be available on streaming.

so I’ve watched the last one of the live action shorts – Please Hold, and while I get comparisons to Two Distant Strangers, I do not see it winning. I do not see the point in this short…

    2. Ala Kachuu
    3. On My Mind
    4. Please Hold
    5. The Long Goodbye

    my predictions are:
    1. The Long Goodybe
    2. Ala Kachuu
    3. Please Hold
    4. The Dress
    5. On My Mind

With CODA surging, I’m switching to Audible for Documentary Short.

I’ve thought the same thing, plus the Netflix factor. But The Queen of Basketball has gotten a lot of promotion too. I’m really torn.

Lead Me Home is very emotional and I feel like it’s being underestimated. I don’t know about winning but it sure isn’t last in that category.

I think it’s really gross and unfair that the people behind  The Queen of Basketball have been able to tack on Shaq and Steph Curry as “executive producers” in the last month when they’ve had nothing to do with the production. Steph Curry just joined last week. Its a blatant grab for votes and there should be a rule in place that all producers must be in place by a certain date. Not everybody has access to superstar athletes like the New York Times does. They did this last year too, adding Ava DuVernay a few weeks before too. It’s pretty bonkers that it’s allowed and I really hope it doesnt win because we all know that the vast majority of voters are not watching all the shorts… If any… And will just go with the most known one. Most of the secret ballots didn’t even bother predicting this category.

I saw some articles promoting Audible this week and it definitely has the visibility it needs to win.

It could definitely win and I think it will.

I got a message for Shorts TV, who was supposed to release all the nominees in packages on the 22nd. This is what they said:

“Hi, unfortunately they’re delayed this year because the signed contracts and media came in late. The films are currently being processed by the streaming and cable pay-per-view platforms, but we’re not sure when they will push them live yet. Hopefully soon but it may be after the ceremony this year. The online release will only be live action and animation (minus Robin Robin) due to available online film rights. We will announce it on our page as soon as we know it’s live.”

I was so excited, because this was going to be the first year that I would have seen every nominated film before the ceremony. Is that still going possible for me to do (without extensive traveling)?

Is Bestia removed on YouTube? And is there a link to the Dress? Those 2 are the only ones I haven’t seen yet.

The Dress is available on HBO Max, and Bestia is on Vimeo On Demand (as is Ala Kachuu, which I had to find on my own– for whatever reason, no “where to watch” article I’ve come across indicates this).

The only short I haven’t found is When We Were Bullies. Anyone know how I can watch this before the ceremony? I’d hate to drive to another city to buy a ticket to a shorts package for one short. It’s ridiculous that they’re waiting until after the ceremony for an HBO Max release.
