ReplyCopy URLOctober 1, 2011 at 6:25 am #36836My “most likely nominees” as of October 1, in alphabetical order:
The Artist (The Weinstein Company; Thomas Langmann, Emmanuel Montamat)
The Descendants (Fox Searchlight; Jim Burke, Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor)
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Paramount/Warner; Scott Rudin)
J. Edgar (Warner Bros.; Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Robert Lorenz)
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Focus Features; Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Robyn Slovo)
War Horse (Walt Disney/Touchstone; Revel Guest, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Steven Spielberg)
Young Adult (Paramount; Diablo Cody, Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick, Jason Reitman, Russell Smith, Charlize Theron)
At this point I’m thinking these 7 are it; if I were to expand the list to 10 I would include (alphabetically) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, Midnight in Paris and Moneyball…

War Horse
The Descendants, The Artist and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy are in. War Horse is really starting to look like a major player in this year’s race. The Help seems like the kind of thing Oscar voters would go for. I think we won’t have much more than 5 nominations so I am predicting 6. I think the last slot goes to Midnight in Paris as it is the biggest box office draw of one of the Academy’s most beloved figures. It was critically acclaimed and it will be talked about throughout the Awards season. It’s just a matter of how much it is still in the conversation.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 5, 2011 at 1:21 pm #36839The NYFF has announced (for the first time in its 49 year history) they will have a surprise film next Monday – and that is a work in progress film that is coming out later this year, with the sense that it is one of the “contenders.”
Any of a long line are possibilities – Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (after the great response to The Social Network last year), J Edgar (Eastwood having a history with the festival), Hugo (Scorsese’s George Harrison doc showed over the weekend) are among them.
As a work in progress, there will be no press screening and mainstream reviews will be disallowed. But needless to say, there will be word out on this.

as of now….

I couldnt agree more, it would definitely deserve it too.
