Fresh off an Oscar nomination, Kristen Stewart has announced her directorial debut “The Chronology Of Water” based on a memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch.

FESTIVAL DE CANNES: What will your first feature film be about?

KRISTEN STEWART: I’m adapting a memoir. It’s called The Chronology of Water. Lidia Yuknavitch is from Portland. I love her novels but her memoires… it’s deeply personal to her. She’s in my blood and I knew that before I met her. As soon as I met her it was like we started this race without any sense of competition. I’m making the movie this summer but other than that, my only goal is just to finish the screenplay and hire a really spectacular actor: I’m going to write the best fucking female role. I’m going to write a role that I want so badly but that I’m not going to play.

The book traces the author’s life from her troubled childhood, through to her pursuit of beauty and self expression as an author.

“It is a life that navigates, and transcends, abuse, addiction, self-destruction, and the crushing loss of a stillborn child. It is the life of a misfit, one that forges a fierce and untrodden path to creativity and comes together in the shape of love,” according to the book’s official synopsis.

The star is said to be a well known British actress.

    Any guesses?

Since I think the role will require an actress under 40:

    Jodie Comer
    Florence Pugh
    Emma Watson
    Carey Mulligan
    Emily Blunt

The first performer who came to my mind reading the premise was Jodie Comer but I wonder with much of the focus of this memoir on the author’s sexuality if Stewart may be interested in casting an openly queer actor. Maybe Emma Corrin? She does have a slot free after her FX miniseries Retreat finishes shooting in June.

In this adaptation of an author’s memoir, the author focuses on her bisexuality, her addiction issues, and her involvement with the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement opposing Israeli oppression of Palestine.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

If the movie is being filmed “this summer,” I doubt it is Mulligan because I think she’ll still be working on Maestro, which starts filming in May. If Ridley Scott finishes Napoleon at his usual quick rate, maybe Vanessa Kirby?

The first two are the popular choices for now. My guess is Pugh and based on her filmography it seems suited for Mulligan.

Hmm I’m not sure. According to Kirby’s IMDB she is attached to three projects alongside the Napoleon movie (two of which are in post production and the other, the eighth Mission Impossible film, is already in stages of filming).

When movies are in post production, isn’t an actor’s work essentially done, except maybe for a couple of days of ADR work?

Another possibility might be Claire Foy, whose IMDb page doesn’t indicate that she will be filming anything else imminently.

My computer made a silly auto-correction of pre-production to post-production! My apologies.

I remember(I don’t know where) Kristen Stewart said the role was younger than her. So no to your names. I suppose someone really young like Millie Bobby Brown

I read some bits (about the author prior to her writing career). MBB would be too young for the part. I imagined someone who was born between 1992-2000. Daisy Ridley, Olivia Cooke and Daisy Edgar Jones are those who come to mind
