Fantasia won’t get nominated for Best Actress. Danielle and Taraji will get nominated for Supporting Actress. A Supporting Actor nomination for Corey depends on his competition. The only way Colman will get nominated is if he commits category fraud in Supporting Actor (he’ll be nominated for Best Actor for Rustin; no actor can have two nominations in the same category in the same year).
I totally forgot about Rustin. Lol
Why do you think Fantasia won’t be nominated? I can understand not thinking she would win but thinking she won’t be nominated given how nominated her role has been in past productions is pretty bold.
March 21, 2023 at 4:40 pm #1205359063I really want colman to be nominated but MISTER has never been nominated for anything.
Yeah. Sadly. I wonder why that is. It’s a great role.

I have a sixth sense for these things. I’ve never been wrong about the Best Actress nominees since I started predicting the 2017 Oscars. Aside from this, only her stans are hoping she gets nominated, then when she doesn’t it’s “F—k the Oscars,” “#OscarsSoWhite” and all of that bull. They’re setting themselves up to be disappointed when she isn’t. Fantasia can’t act her way out of a brown paper bag; she couldn’t play herself in her own Lifetime biopic from seventeen years ago. Yes, she’s played Celie on Broadway, but she over-acted and over-emoted in every scene, and screamed her way through the songs, per usual. I will support the film though since the 1985 version means so much to the culture, and I’m curious to see if it meets or exceeds my expectations.
The cast I assembled to play these roles are better than who they chose.

It’s at the 42 minute mark.
March 21, 2023 at 6:51 pm #1205359139Also, the first time we may hear/see footage might be the end of April. WB is set to present highlights from its upcoming slate at Cinema Con – an annual industry event.

1. Why do you think #Oscarsowhite was BS? Was it not ALL at the time?
2. The GENERAL consensus is that Fantasia was great in the role.
3. There are plenty of actors that have progressed. Judging Fantasia off a performance playing herself from 20 years ago isn’t fair.
Fantasia is a brilliant singer. You seem to have seen a lot her work for someone who doesn’t seem to be a fan
March 21, 2023 at 10:07 pm #1205359211“Can’t act her way out of a paper bag” Sounds more like hater predicting than anything else so I can’t take it serious, Fantasia was amazing on Broadway, won an award for it in fact. Had she been the original instead of a replacement she likely would’ve won the Tony for this role. It is also not just fans predicting her, I’ve been impressed by how many articles over the last week calling the race for her to
Be nominated, and an early front runner. Sure her performance in the life time movie (Her very first acting role…) wasn’t the greatest but she did broadway after that and received rave reviews. We shall see how she does in this film but one thing I know is she did audition (With competition and screen tested) so clearly they saw something in her.I have a sixth sense for these things. March 21, 2023 at 10:18 pm #1205359215This makes sense, I was thinking we would get something from this movie around late April/May. I was thinking Cannes.

March 21, 2023 at 10:32 pm #1205359217Tasia seems a more capable actor than Jennifer Hudson. Not that that is saying much. How she’s directed will have the biggest impact on her performance. While it’s highly unlikely this movie is a big player at the Oscars and she ends up being left out.

Why do you think that? I have a feeling that this and Dune: Part Two are going to be Warner Brothers’ biggest priorities for next year’s Oscars.
March 22, 2023 at 7:33 am #1205359650Why is it “highly unlikely to be a big player”?

March 22, 2023 at 7:39 am #1205359660Does anyone know why they didn’t cast Cynthia Erivo as Celie? To me, she’s the logical choice since she has more film and tv experience and she’s obviously played the part on stage.
I think the transition from stage to film can be challenging and that’s really why I will be surprised if Fantasia is even nominated for BA.
March 22, 2023 at 7:55 am #1205359691It’s not exactly clear, we do know that Cynthia was also preparing to film Wicked and there was talk of there being an overlapping conflict between both filing schedules. HOWEVER, TCP wrapped principle photography a good amount of time before Wicked started to rehearsing/filming so I am unsure if that was exactly true or not.
I haven’t heard any chatter about Drama, Contracts or anything so it’s not really clear what happened. I do know that she was intending on being on this project because she said as much in some interviews.
We do know that this cast had to audition, Danielle brooks and Fantasia both have spoken a little bit about auditioning. Phylicia Pearl Who plays young Celie has also spoken publicly about auditioning to play Celie but not getting that role. She was called back later for young celie. So it is possible the Cynthia auditioned but who knows.
I do think people are being a little unfair to Fantasia being that she has filmed for anything this major ever. We don’t know how she prepared, what she has learned or anything. What we do know is her last acting job had rave reviews and people really enjoyed her ability to connect emotionally to this role. We know Oprah has said that Fantasia brings a rawness and a vulnerability to this Role. So I think people need to give her a chance to she what she can do here.

Cynthia has had a bit of a complicated history with black American audiences given her comments in the past. Following that she also received backlash for playing Harriet and Aretha. Also, having seen Cynthia on broadway, she was good but really only from a technical perspective (acting, singing), I never believed her as the black Southern American woman Celie is meant to be – and something tells me that would have read on camera.
I also know with Fantasia, they called her several times and asked her to play the role (she still had to audition/test) and she turned them down several times. Apparently the producers/director really wanted her. I would also say she probably had the best reviewed version on stage.
